Director of Technology

PURPOSE:
Manage the overall information technology initiatives for the School with regard to all aspects of administrative computing, networking, multimedia instructional development, hardware and software support for students and staff and development of technology applications. Effectively translate and incorporate strategic objectives in to the School’s technology roadmap.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Align technology with the School’s mission by clarifying the School’s IT goals and objectives; providing direction for infusion of education technology into the classroom; recommending appropriate and cost-effective investments in IT; and developing cost/benefit analyses.
- Ensure acceptable use of technology by developing, communicating, and enforcing policies and procedures; monitoring usage; and by setting up and managing all email accounts, user accounts and passwords.
- Minimize risk by maintaining a secure, efficient and robust IT architecture; implementing regular improvements to network and cloud-based applications; and developing/maintaining a network disaster recovery plan along with back-up procedures.
- Secure and protect sensitive data by creating and administering policies on collecting and storing data, reviewing and assessing data collected and educating the community on the risks.
- Ensure continuous delivery of IT services by troubleshooting and de-bugging issues; setting up and supporting systems and devices (laptops, phones, routers, tablets); and managing vendors and service contracts.
- Develop and manage the technology operating budget. Responsible for the financial aspects of the technology department, including purchasing, reviewing and approving IT spending in cooperation with the Chief Operating Officer and understanding the cost elements related to the delivery of technology projects, products and systems.
- Maintain an inventory of all hardware and software.
- Maintain the server room, manage routers and program switches. Ensure maintenance and repairs are performed to make certain all end-users have optimum and ready access to the network.
- Contribute to the School’s success by remaining current on technological advancements and emerging trends; networking with peer schools and participating in professional development.
- Promote the interest of students by being a good role model, establishing and reinforcing clear boundaries and guidelines, encouraging students’ autonomy and independence and acting in a transparent manner.
- Perform other duties as may be required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Computer Science or Information Systems along with 5 years experience in a technology management or support role. An A.S. would be acceptable with 10 years of experience in a technology management or support role.
Must possess:
- Experience with network administration of Windows Network Software as well as knowledge and experience with network architecture, telecommunication systems, wireless, mobile and cloud technologies;
- Experience with server operating systems Windows NT, 2008 and 2012 as well as other Microsoft and Apple operating systems and devices. In addition, Google Gmail, Google Drive, and MS Office Suite 2007 and 2010. Knowledge of administrative and academic database systems (e.g. Blackbaud and Filemaker) are preferred, but not required;
- Sense of humor, flexibility, high energy, collegiality and the ability to work effectively with a team as well as independently;
- Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous responsibilities;
- High standards of integrity and experience handling confidential and sensitive employee information;
- Strong interpersonal, communication (oral/written), organizational and leadership skills including the ability to make clear and assertive decisions aligned with School’s mission and vision;
MUST BE ABLE TO:
- Prioritize the most critical work while keeping longer-term projects moving forward;
- Expand and enhance the use of technology to support the needs of the School;
- Provide proper management and operation of the campus network and related infrastructure;
- Work outside normal business hours on some weekends and evenings as needed.
- Able to meet the physical demands which include sitting for prolonged periods of time at a desk or computer workstation, using repetitive arm, hand and finger movements traveling on uneven terrain, climb/descend stairs; stand for long periods of time and carry up to 50 pounds.
