The Kew-Forest School, a Preschool through 12th grade, co-educational day school in Forest Hills, New York, seeks an experienced and dynamic Director of Technology. The Director of Technology is responsible for the overall planning, organization, integration, implementation, and maintenance of all technology functions at the School. In addition to possessing strong organizational, technical, and analytical skills, the ideal candidate is a problem solver with a positive attitude, flexible approach, sense of humor, a high degree of diplomacy, and “can-do” style.

The Director of Technology reports to the Head of School and serves on the School’s eleven-member senior leadership team. The Director of Technology works collaboratively with the Heads of Lower and Middle/Upper School and teachers to spearhead technology initiatives that support teaching and learning and coordinates workshops on instructional applications of various technologies. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communication, the Director of Technology oversees the technical side of the School’s web content platform. The Director of Technology also works collaboratively with the Director of Safety and Security on the security camera, emergency, visitor, and door access systems.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, and day-to-day management of the technology department, including data network and backup systems, firewall and security issues, databases, servers, printers, and telephone systems.

  • Develop a strategic and long-range technology plan for the School and develop and manage the School’s computer/device operating and technology department budget.

  • Remain current on new developments in the areas of software, hardware, networks, telecommunications, training, and maintenance and maintain an active role in the local and state technology community. Identify, evaluate, and recommend new and emerging technologies for classroom and administrative uses or to improve the current infrastructure.

  • Serve as an account administrator or co-administrator for a variety of online educational resources (e.g., GSuite, Blackbaud onCampus).

  • Manage inventory of all school-owned or leased equipment including desktops/laptops, Epson BrightLinks smart projectors, phones, copiers, printers, etc.

  • Provide maintenance and support for all school-owned Chromebooks, classroom technology, office technology, and audio-visual systems throughout the School.

  • Assess and respond to technology needs as voiced by faculty, administration, and staff and plan and supervise internal and external training of the School’s personnel.

  • Manage vendor relations, procurement, installation, and implementation of information systems.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree, preferred

  • 4+ years of experience in the development, installation, and maintenance of information systems; in an educational environment, preferred

  • Current and in-depth knowledge of network architecture; telecommunication; wireless, mobile, cloud technologies, and Windows servers and virtualization

  • Professional technical certifications and/or training from CompTIA A+ and/or Network+, Microsoft, Google for Education, Apple, etc., preferred

  • Knowledge of administrative and academic database systems, preferred

  • Strong skills in communications and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies

  • Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues
