Director of Technology
University Child Development School (UCDS), an independent school, is searching for a Director of Technology. UCDS is located in Seattle Washington. UCDS encourage students to stretch, reflect, collaborate, and think expansively – enriching their educational growth and ensuring they thrive in school and beyond. UCDS is a pre-k through 5th grade independent private school that has additional programs including an early childhood program serving 0–3 year-olds, a teacher education program, and starting in September 2020, a Grad School.
The Director of Technology is a creative and experienced professional who directs the organization’s overall technology program. This is a full-time administrative leadership position responsible for leading the organization’s technology mission and vision. The Director of Technology will ensure that technology effectively supports innovative teaching, learning and daily operations. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the technology infrastructure and implement technology solutions for a 21stCentury learning environment and school operations.
Essential Job Functions
The Director of Technology’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide vision and leadership to ensure the academic programs are supported by cutting edge pedagogy and educational technology resources

Facilitate the implementation of the strategic initiatives, to create personalize learning experiences that focus on the development of 21st Century global competencies

Plan and manage the implementation of technology initiatives such as new systems, processes and structures

Lead and manage the Technology Support team

Collaborate with IT staff and all of the institutions’ constituencies to set the information technology strategic short and long-term goals to incorporate the use of present and emerging technologies.

Develop, implement, and maintaining the long-range technology plan for the school.

Maintaining long-term planning for network hardware, software, wiring, and peripherals.

Maintaining the technological infrastructure to support the academic and administrative needs of the school.

Creating and implementing annual and long-term technology budgets.

Staying current on new trends in technology and how they affect the educational arena.

Supervising appropriate technology training and professional development of faculty and staff.

Managing computer hardware (laptops, desktops, Chromebooks, projectors, SMARTBoards, printers, scanners), software, network infrastructure, and servers.

Reviewing and regularly updating technology policies (including Disaster Recovery Plan, Security Policy, etc.)

Provide support for the school’s student information and billing system (Veracross).

Provide support for the school’s financial system (Netsuite).

Maintaining the school’s VOIP phone system.

Provide support for the school’s video surveillance system.
Skills and Competencies

Ability to mentor and train faculty in the use of technology.

Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with staff, administration.

Ability to visualize and implement.

Experience with network administration/security.

Knowledge of implementing and maintaining network architectures including: vlans, VPNs, and firewalls.

Knowledge of maintaining a virtual server environment such as VMware.
Qualifications and Other Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Educational Technology

Minimum of 5 years in a similar position at a senior level.

Demonstrated administrative experience relating to technology and technology integration.

Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively as a team player with faculty, administration.

Experience and skill with a wide range of hardware, software and cloud resources.

Experience working in an education environment is preferred.
