Description:
The Director of Technology (DOT) will serve as the leader of ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY’s Technology
Department providing leadership and support with various technology tasks including: Comprehensive
knowledge of communications and information technology systems analysis, design, construction, integration,
operation, security, and maintenance; thorough knowledge of the operation of information systems; thorough knowledge of the methods and practices used in providing required control and security of data and systems; thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and policies of the school divisions; knowledge of the principles and practices of process innovation and re-design, project management, contract negotiation, contract management, and customer vendor relationships. Ability to develop standards and procedures for all aspects of computer systems; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, users, a variety of publics, business representatives, and administrators within and beyond the local school division; ability to manage projects and to make decisions independently; ability to supervise the work of others; ability to assimilate, analyze, and evaluate complex technical issues and make decisions on appropriate courses of action; ability to develop, present, and defend complex and diversfied technology issues, reports, and statistics, orally and in writing; ability to write contracts, reports, policies and procedures, and correspondence. Must possess strong organizational, and program development skills and extensive oral and written communication skills. Skilled in identifying opportunities and achieving success through effective deployment of technology; Skilled in developing strategic and tactical communications and information technology plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Administers systems and servers related to district LAN and WAN (e.g. email systems, accounts, print queue, workstation ID, IP assignments, computer labs, classroom computers, VOIP, security, antivirus, spyware, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availabilityof services to authorized users.
  • Installs network (client and server) software on a variety of platforms (e.g. service packs, application software, operating software,hardware upgrades, etc.) for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining District WAN/LAN and telecommunication systems
  • Designs computer networks (e.g. internet, web mail, FTP servers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient operating systems
  • Develops, prepares and recommends budget for purchasing, upgrading and maintaining multi user computer systems, system personnel salary equity adjustment and/or merit raise and professional on the job training.
  • Prepares and keeps current documentation on all managed systems, including disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensures security best practices are implemented and revised, as needed, to maintain the availability, integrity and confidentiality of the information stored on and accessed through the network (firewalls, file rights, backup systems, account management, vulnerability testing, etc.)
  • Preserve assets, information security and control structures. Maintain an active database of all credentials regarding online accounts and access. Including, but not limited to: website, online registrars, backup services, hosting services, Google drives, internal NAS access and IPA shared network drives.
  • Oversee password security, distribution and maintenance for faculty, staff, students & visitors (wifi, software, hardware, peripheral, online and social media accounts). Setup and termination of access for users.
  • Assure application software, database software, and operating systems are at current revision levels and ensures acceptable levels of performance and access for application systems, databases, and operating systems. This includes PC/MAC workstations & laptops in all departments.
  • Offer support for various software programs, including, but not limited to: Microsoft 365, Google, Adobe Creative Suite and Rediker
  • Maintain database of inventory of Technology equipment including laptops, projector, printers and other peripheral devices.
  • Ensure software, plugin, product and warranty registrations are current.
  • Provide daily maintenance of IPA website (plug-in updates, website page updates, backups, user access, SEO and optimization)
  • Any other duties required to support ISLAND PACIFIC ACADEMY'S Technology Department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science preferred
  • 2+ years Graphic Design Skills, Layout Skills, Creative Services, Creativity,
  • Microsoft Certification
  • C++ programming
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac OS and hardware/software installation
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, obtain results, provide solutions for a broad range of technical problems
  • Flexibility, Deadline Oriented, Handles Rejection, Pays Attention to Detail.
  • Knowledge and experience in Adobe Create Suite
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Mac and PC trained
  • Some Wordpress, HTML or CSS knowledge is also desirable, as some responsibilities may fall heavily under the
  • Internet and web design categories
  • Weekend and after hour availablity.
