Job Title: Director of Technology

Summary
The Director of Technology serves as a member of the School Leadership Team by 1.) Developing IT Vision and Strategy. 2.) Managing and operating the IT hardware infrastructure, software systems infrastructure, and classroom technology support.  3.) Leading a customer service oriented help desk.  4.) Providing technical advisement and collaboratively servicing administration and faculty to develop the technology capability among faculty and staff and ensure that technology initiatives enhance and improve the educational environment and operational efficiency of the school.

Essential Functions
The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to:

Strategic IT Planning

  • Develop overarching IT strategy which encompasses all aspects of the school’s technology needs; computers, servers, peripherals, telecommunication systems, Internet connectivity, audiovisual equipment, software, data center operations, backup and security systems and technology personnel.  
  • Create, implement, and enforce all policies and educational programs for student and staff that relate to social, legal, and ethical uses of technology within the school community.
  • Research and provide recommendations on emerging technologies.
  • Consults with division principals to plan and implement infusion of technology into the curriculum.
  • Develops strategies for technology training and adoption for students, faculty, and parents.
Manages Technology and Equipment Operations
  • Provides Project and Portfolio Management of all technology plans and budgets.
  • Manages oversight of all hardware, software, and networking needs of the school.
  • Maintains an inventory of all technology resources.
  • Responsible for management of vendor/outsource partner negotiations, purchases, services and products.
  • Develops, implements and ensures policies are in place to protect the privacy and security of school and student information.
  • Serve as technical liaison between IT staff, faculty, students, parents and the larger community both internal and external.
  • Manages help desk operations.
Leads the Technology Team
  • Develop, coach and evaluate employees.
  • Plans and conducts monthly department meetings.
  • Partners with Division Principals (Lower School, Middle School and High School) to coordinate integration of IT into the classroom in grades K-12.
  • Ensures Instructional Technology Specialists (ITS) are serving faculty by facilitating and coordinating professional IT development activities for teachers including classroom visitations to observe teachers, provides timely feedback.
Telcom
  • Responsible for the school’s phone system, including negotiation of services, rates, and maintenance of all equipment.
Network Specialist Supervision
  • Prioritizes and monitors requests (Help Desk) and projects for network specialists, help desk and ITS.
  • Encourage professional development of all specialists.
  • Provides feedback and annual performance review for all IT staff.
Other
  • Commits to personal professional development through membership(s) in relevant professional association(s) and attendance at GaETC (Georgia Educational Technology Conference) annually.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor or Master's degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Management, Educational Technology, or other equivalent disciplines is required.

Experience
8-10 years of successful experience leading a technology team and developing IT plans, procedures and policies.  Experience in an academic setting is preferred.

Certifications
MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) or equivalent certification preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Clear understanding of the key issues surrounding the use of technology in the classroom to support an academically rigorous curriculum at all levels.
  • Project and Portfolio Management experience.
  • Experience in budgeting for information technology operations.
  • Deep understanding of installation, configuration, and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, networking, and accessory equipment.
  • Analytical skills to assess problems or unusual situations and develop creative solutions.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups of stakeholders.  Respects, accepts and appreciates different perspectives and talents.
  • Service orientation; understands and embraces a support role in the organization.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and focus the team on key priorities.

Key Relationships
Internal
The Director of Technology is a resource for all technology needs to the staff and faculty at KRCS.  This individual must possess a passion for education, patient disposition, a servant’s heart and a teacher’s perspective to help others understand and utilize the technology available to its full potential.

External
The Director of Technology actively represents the school to the community through relationships with parents, outside vendors, and contractors.  This individual also actively surveys faculty, students and parents to determine technology improvement opportunities.

Physical Requirements
This position requires ability to stand, sit, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 – 50 pounds.  Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.  Work is mainly performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work.
