Director of Technology

Position Overview: The Director of Technology provides overall strategic direction and accountability for all internal information technology including network and computer operations, server, storage, applications, business systems, intranet development, security, telecommunications and compliance. In addition, responsibilities include strategic and visionary leadership of all areas of school technology including campus operations, high school technology education, and classroom technology integration. The Director of Technology is a member of the Administration and reports to the Head of School.

The Director of Technology maintains commercial-grade infrastructure components including enterprise servers (directory, web, etc.) in a mixed client/server environment; maintains campus-wide wireless network on top of stable wired infrastructure; and engages in contract negotiation and vendor management. The position begins January 8, 2018.

General Responsibilities:

• Work with the administration to develop strategic and technology plans which support the school’s mission
• Manage the informational services provided to the school community, both directly and with appropriate staff
• Lead efforts to continuously analyze current and future applications to support school operations
• Coordinate with departments to design, implement, and support all school needs by negotiating with consultants, vendors and technical personnel for services and products
• Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for the technology department as well as reviewing and approving all technology-related purchases
• Define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices
• Manage and execute critical data reliability and recovery
• Manage, support and evaluate the Network Administrator
• Review operating reports and produce reports for senior administration
• Participate in Administrative Team meetings
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Academic Technology:

• Design and deliver professional development and growth experiences for faculty and staff in areas of technology integration and instructional design
• Help guide academic leaders on strategic and operational decisions involving instructional technology hardware, software, and programs
• Establish strong partnerships with the faculty to develop and implement dynamic classroom use of technology integration
• Maintain an active presence in the local, regional and national educational technology communities

Technical Responsibilities:

• Responsible for entire computing environment across campus
• Responsible for all school network services across campus and the Internet
• Manages critical network operations around Active Directory, Open Directory, LDAP, RADIUS, DHCP, DNS and VLANs
• Maintains all aspects of GSuite Applications (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, etc)
• Manages and augments VLAN infrastructure running 10 different network segments for faculty, staff, student and administrative use
• Maintains and adjusts campus-wide wireless network with approx 25 access points serving multiple WLANS for faculty, staff, and back-end use
• Serves as technical lead on school Academic Information System and website serving all internal and external community for the school and the various integrations with third-party websites (BlackBoard Connect, Google, etc.)
• Maintains school business-related network services and applications
• Maintains firewalls, cache and software update servers and content-filtering systems sitting on different gateways for different network segments and internet connections
• Maintains and adjusts the multiple fiber-optic network cabling that connects the various buildings across the campus to each other and back to MPOE in server room
• Maintains use of computer imaging software for network imaging of client computers in the labs and for faculty and staff
• Monitors and augments school 's internal Nagios-based network services monitoring and alerting system
• Troubleshoots network topology issues, when necessary with packet analysis tools such as WireShark to isolate and address possible network irregularities
• Maintains and utilizes computer lab management image protection software to ensure client computer consistency
• Manages Microsoft SQL Server for back-end databases used in network services
• Maintains internal web servers for specific internal uses running lIS and Apache
• Sets and continues consistent network device naming conventions across the campus (printers, switches, other)

• Experience with both academic technology integration and IT services, and relevant professional training.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of Education and Experience
• Excellent Organizational and Communication skills
• Leadership and supervisory experience
• A desire to collaborate and create partnerships with students, faculty and staff
• Interest in working with a diverse community of students and adults
• Strategic thinking and interest in emerging technologies that may benefit education and pedagogy

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Bending and lifting (up to 50 lbs) are also a frequent requirement.
