Full time creative and dynamic educator to serve as Hausner's Director of Technology and Innovation.
The successful candidate will provide leadership across the school’s K-8 program by overseeing the effective integration into the academic program of information and communication technologies along with the four c’s of 21st-century learning: creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. The Director’s oversight will include partnering closely with other academic leaders at the school in pursuit of shared strategic visions, mentoring and supporting teachers to enhance their curricula and pedagogy, directing the school’s Technology Department, and enthusiastically championing Hausner’s development as a leader in the effective and creative use of technology and 21st-century teaching and learning practices.
The Director of Technology and Innovation will serve on the Hanhala Academit (Academic Leadership Team) of the school and will report directly to the Head of School. This is a 12-month, salaried position, with competitive compensation and a full benefits package. The start date for the position is July 1, 2017.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement a vision for effective integration of technology and 21st-century teaching and learning practices across the academic program, building on the strengths of existing programs
- Support teachers in their integration of technology and innovation and thus help inspire students to be resourceful, innovative thinkers, always with the understanding that technology should not drive the curriculum, but should promote and enhance powerful teaching and learning
- Serve as the public face and champion of Hausner’s efforts in educational technology and innovation, communicating with teachers, students, parents, professional colleagues, and community supporters
- Ensure that all staff members have ready access to the tools and strategies of 21st-century learning
- Remain current on developments and forecasts in the field and share this knowledge with administrative colleagues to support decision-making related to both academic and administrative matters
- Oversee the professional learning of the faculty related to educational technology and innovation, in collaboration with the Hanhala Academit, including by visiting and observing in classrooms, providing feedback and direct targeted support, leading workshops, gathering resources and providing easy access to them, and connecting colleagues with current trends
- Direct the Technology Department, supervising all of its members, guiding their professional development, evaluating their job performance, and delegating responsibilities to them to insure effective delivery of the school’s technology programs and services and maintenance and enhancement of its technology infrastructure
- Consult with appropriate stakeholders and advise the Head of School on the acquisition of new technology and equipment to support strategic priorities and initiatives
- Develop and monitor the annual budget for educational technology and technology operations, in close consultation and collaboration with the Assistant Head of School/CFOO
- Take the lead in ensuring that the school community and all of its members uphold all laws and the highest standards of ethics, safety, and digital citizenship in the purchase and use of technology, including licensed equipment, software, and materials
- Remain open and available to contributing to the delivery of the school’s program in ways that fall outside the formal description of the job and respond with flexibility and good will to emergency situations outside of the standard work schedule
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a field related to the functions of the position
- Experience working with children required and teaching experience in a K-8 environment strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Jewish day school education preferred, though not required
- Proven track record in managing projects, including those involving integration of technology and innovation in classroom settings
- Demonstrated broad and deep knowledge of best practices in the use of technology in schools
- Strong familiarity with and commitment to objectives of 21st-century learning
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, nurtured by both curiosity and conviction
- Experience with a range of software, hardware, and operating systems
- Experience with preparing and managing budgets
- Experience with supervising and mentoring direct reports
- Experience with guiding the professional learning of educators
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Generally work in standard office or school / classroom conditions and climate
- Noise level is usually low to moderate and occasionally high
- May work in varied inclement outside weather conditions during special activities
- Regular requirements to talk and hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle, reach with hands and arms, and use a keyboard and video display terminal
- Occasional requirements to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasional requirements to lift up to 30 pounds or possibly up to 50 pounds on rare occasions
