Davidson Day School seeks a strategic administrator to guide the school towards future possibilities to begin on July 1, 2021 or earlier, as mutually agreed. The Director of Technology and Innovation is an innovative, creative, and dynamic leader charged with developing and implementing a strategic vision in all areas of technology.

In addition to overseeing and managing the school’s technology network infrastructure, cybersecurity, hardware, software, and budget, the Director oversees best practices involving digital tools and technology integration into daily practical classroom use. Both a big picture thinker and a hands-on implementer, the Director engages with administrators, educators, support staff, parents, and students to extend the responsible and creative use of technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the school’s administrative team to define, develop, and shape the school’s technology strategic vision.

  • Manages the deployment of IT infrastructure, hardware, and systems, including daily tech support.

  • Ensures current and potential curricular technology implementations can be supported and maintained by the IT infrastructure.

  • Proactively drives IT improvements and collaborates with other departments to implement them.

  • Provides leadership in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of instructional technology hardware, software, and learning tools.

  • Manages the budget for infrastructure and academic hardware/software purchases in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Demonstrates and models innovative instructional practices that utilize technology effectively to inspire curriculum and teaching.

  • Maintains and troubleshoots system security, physical and cloud-based site networks/servers, access points and switches, fiber/ethernet/VoIP systems, data storage solutions, and the network infrastructure.

  • Leads the development and interpretation of IT program policy and procedures to establish guidelines needed to effectively and efficiently meet the school’s program goals while adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Qualifications include:

  • Has at least five years of IT experience with a degree in education, IT, computer science, or related field of study.

  • Exhibits a positive leadership ability to serve as a community leader in all school contexts.

  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, and controllers.

  • Familiarity with and appreciation of the role of digital technology in learning and design thinking.

  • Finds joy in working with children, adults, and in school life, is kind and patient, and possesses a healthy sense of humor.

  • Shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching, along with a passion for and knowledge of K-12 Academic Technology.

  • Committed to leading and supporting teachers’ ongoing professional development as it relates to educational technology.

  • Possesses or shows promise of successful leadership experience and has led the development and implementation of innovative program design.

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and understanding of technology operations and educational integration necessary at an independent school.

  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
