The Hewitt School, a k-12, independent girls school, is seeking two creative and innovative Educational Technologists for the 2015-2016 school year who will play a significant role in k?12 programming. The core responsibilities include teaching technology, computer programming, engineering design, and maker skills, as well as collaborating with faculty to design and coordinate interdisciplinary activities to promote high-tech learning. The ideal candidates should have a passion for making, design, and STEM education as well as experience working in a student-­?centered, collaborative, and inquiry?based educational environment. A Master’s degree is preferred and a minimum of two years of classroom experience is required. The Educational Technologists report to the Director of Educational Technology.

 

 

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Teaching

 Classes with a focus on technology concepts and operations, programming and physical computing, engineering design, and making.

Curriculum Development
 Work collaboratively with the Director of Educational Technology to define benchmarks for        technology curriculum and integration.

 Lead innovative curricular design to leverage technology and utilize the Fabrication Lab (opening in 2016).

 Define and develop the role of technology in the classroom with the academic administration as it promotes and supports the mission of the school and strategic plan.

Technology Integration
 Model effective uses of current and new instructional technology inside and outside the classroom for teachers and students.

Work with teachers to determine what technologies to use, train them to use these tools, and plan how to incorporate them effectively into their lessons. Encourage independent and creative use of technology.

 Assist the operations department in providing tech support to faculty; troubleshoot iOS/Mac hardware, software problems and interactive whiteboards.

Join classes when new educational technology projects are being launched.

Professional Development

Provide individual and group instruction in educational technologies.

Find outside opportunities for faculty to learn educational technologies.

Skills and Expertise
The maker movement, and a passion for student-­?centered, collaborative, and inquiry-­? based education.
Design Thinking.
3D printing, electronics, hand/power tools, and robotics.
 Media (film/video, animation and graphic design).
 MacOS and iOS, as well as practical knowledge of mainstream educational software applications.
Troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues relevant to the classroom, and STEM education. Demonstrated ability to innovate.
 Curiosity and perseverance in problem solving combined with a strong work ethic.
 Excellent collaboration and communication skills
