Reports to: Director of the Center for Leadership and Innovation

FLSA Status: Exempt

If so, we have the perfect role for you!  We are seeking an Educational Technology Coordinator for St. Thomas School (STS).

 

STS is at the forefront of education technology. As an original Microsoft Showcase School, STS was one of the first schools to:

  •  Launch a schoolwide 1:1 laptop program

  •  Implement a Virtual Reality lab

  •  Provide feedback to Microsoft during the development of OneNote Class Notebooks

 

We need an educator who is passionate and capable of maintaining and advancing our position as a global leader in education technology.

Help us shape our new Center of Leadership & Innovation, which launches in 2021, and will include a technology lab, makerspace, and learning commons.  Collaborate with the IT Department and members of the Center to influence the choice of technology and equipment, as well as the curriculum to elevate student learning. St. Thomas School (STS) is one of the most established independent schools on the east side of Lake Washington. Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, provides an exemplary instructional experience in the classroom, and supports students, parents, and other community members in realizing our Guiding Principles.  Abides by our Framework for Professional Standards.  Teaches technology skills from our 3 pillars (computer science and engineering, digital skills, and digital publishing) to students from Kindergarten through Grade 6. Proposes, plans, and teaches Master Classes for 7th and 8thgrades focusing on specialized tech skills.  Supplements students’ “regular” curriculum with vital technology skills needed in the 21st century. Collaborates with other Specialists to enrich school-wide and grade-specific curriculum. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

Position Specific

  • Develops curriculum and unit plans, teaching weekly classes ranging from Kindergarten through Grade 6, technology classes and special electives in 7th and 8th Grades

  • Designs and implements the technology curriculum and establishes emerging curriculum in the areas of computer science, digital literacy, and media production

  • Collaborates with and supports teachers in coordinating the integration of technology applications across the curriculum

  • Provides computer support for students when needed

  • Helps distribute technology to students, providing specific training on use, care, handling and the Acceptable Use Policy

  • Provides back-up support for school functions and events as needed, including student and staff presentations. 

  • Assists in identifying specific educational hardware/software application strategies.

  • Collaborates with a matrixed team including members from Library/Media, Information Technology (IT) and Center for Leadership &Innovation

  • Sponsors middle school clubs

  • May serve as Middle School advisor and chaperone on class trips as needed

General

  • Stays abreast of current educational research and best practices

  • Develops positive, collegial relations with co-workers with a regard for the dignity and social/emotional wellbeing of others and supports community decision-making processes

  • Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development

  • Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies

  • Establishes and communicates to parents and students clear expectations for classroom and extra-curricular operational processes and procedures (i.e., grading/reporting procedures, attendance policies, homework and class work expectations, student behavior, etc.)

  • Observes laws and the school’s policies, procedures and regulations which have application to and implication for the professional’s responsibilities

  • Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities

  • Attends required faculty/staff and other meetings

  • Participates in Committees as required/desired

  • Helps with recess and lunch duties as is needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, with an emphasis in elementary and/or middle school education expertise or related areas with an emphasis on technology education from a four-year college or university 

  • Master’s Degree in elementary and/or middle school education or related areas preferred

  • 3+ years of experience teaching technology

  • Experience in teaching courses at early childhood, elementary and/or middle school level in subject matter area

  • Experience in developing and writing curriculum, knowledge of current trends and research in learning and assessment

  • Online presence as a technology teacher

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in writing code (various languages), video production, image editing, animation, social media, internet safety, robotics, appropriate on-line tools, research and source citation.

  • Familiarity with current learning theories and basic principles of human growth and development and ability to consider them in the design and implementation of learning experiences

  • Knowledge of current trends and research in learning and assessment

  • Ability to manage the non-instructional human dynamics in the educational setting

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Ability to work collaboratively in team situations

  • Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment using Microsoft Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology

  • Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff

  • Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents

  • Ability to work outside in all weather

  • Some travel required (field trips)
