Portledge School seeks to hire a dynamic educational technology teacher who is driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and a passion on a daily basis. Responsibilities include teaching Middle and Lower School courses and electives directly relating to technology literacy, computer science, physical computing (robotics), and digital citizenship, serving as an advisor to approximately eight students, participating collegially in meetings and taking an active role in the life of the school community. In various courses, at different grade levels, the technology education teacher will explore all aspects of computer science with students, covering topics relating to programming, physical computing, web development, user design, problem solving, computational thinking, and the social and ethical issues that come with technology, addressing the multifaceted aspects of being a global citizen in the digital age.

  • Delivering consistent high-quality instruction, mentoring and teaching to students

  • Staying current with current educational research and pedagogy related to classroom instruction and educational trends  

  • Maintaining the online Atlas curriculum database for courses taught 

  • Attending a minimum of 4-6 evening/weekend programs that support the community throughout the year

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching Middle School courses and electives relating directly to Technology Literacy, Computer Science, Physical Computing (Robotics) and Digital Citizenship.

  • Collaborating with the Lower School library media specialist and science department to create and deliver a curriculum that explores programming and physical computing. 

  • Helping coordinate and support the School’s Technology Use Plan; collaborating in the design and implementation of site-based BYOD, 1-to-1 Technology Initiatives, and general technology use.   

  • Collaborating with the Educational Technology Coordinator to discuss the development of policies and procedures for the use of technology. Engaging in an ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of instructional technology planning, programs, and professional development; participating in the implementation of curricular standards and benchmarks to encourage appropriate use of technology integration. 

  • Collaborating with faculty to increase their capacity to use technology effectively and to develop a curriculum that integrates the use of technology that improves the teaching/learning process. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Science or similar minimum; Educational Technology certification or advanced degree in these areas preferred

  • Candidates with formal teaching experience and teaching certification given preference

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • High competency in the use of G-Suite for Education; Google Certified Educator Level 1 preferred 

  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to complement daily instruction, including posting assignments and conducting online assessments; Experience with Blackbaud LMS preferred 

  • Success in modeling effective use of relevant instructional and interactive technology in the teaching and learning process
