Grades 7-12 Innovation Department Chair
The department chair supports the experience of students and faculty and embraces the vision, mission, core values of the school and the Portrait of the Flint Hill Student. The department chair reports to the Director of Studies and is a ten month faculty position.

Curriculum Oversight
-
Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and supervision of content and skill sequences for Grades 7-12 in his/her respective discipline

Ensures continuity of the curriculum across grades and divisions
-
Reviews and approves proposals for new curriculum and presents proposals to the appropriate Department Chairs' meeting for consideration and recommendation to the administration

Reviews semester exams where applicable or projects for quality and adherence to curricular standards
-
Reviews department-specific trip proposals to ensure curricular adherence
-
Seeks opportunities to integrate the curriculum with other disciplines
-
Seeks opportunities to integrate technology purposefully and effectively into the curriculum
-
Seeks opportunities to integrate a plurality of viewpoints and perspectives into the curriculum
-
Oversees the review of textbooks and instructional materials
-
Coordinates and chaperone field trip opportunities that support the goals of the curriculum
-
Coordinates on-site events such a Robotics Qualifier Events and others
Department Leadership
-
Serves as the voice of the department in the school community
-
Establishes (in consultation with department members as needed) the agenda and goals for the department and plans for the implementation and attainment of resulting action items
-
Provides instructional feedback - via an observation note in Folio - to members of the department, generally at least three times per year.

Facilitates department meetings and meeting opportunities for grade-level groups
-
Coordinates instructional and grading practices utilized by members of the department

Organizes course placement testing and evaluation

Reviews formal written comments for students, as assigned

Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment, as appropriate
-
Manages and oversees departmental participation in school admission events
Liaison between Department and Leadership

Represents the department in Department Chair and Curriculum Committee meetings
-
Facilitates communication between department members and Division Directors and/or the Director of Studies by meeting regularly with administrators and colleagues
-
Communicates Department Chair or Curriculum Committee information to department members
-
Recommends instructional materials and technology enhancements to administration
-
Creates and manages the department budget, as appropriate, in consultation with the Division Head
-
Provides feedback on teacher performance to the Division Head
-
Assists the Director of Human Resources and Division Directors in the hiring process (i.e., resume review, interviews, department involvement) to identify 'best fit' candidates for the department
Teacher Development
-
Provides continuing support to all department members to assist their professional growth
-
Mentors new department members in methodology, techniques, resources, and overall practice
-
Identifies professional development needs and opportunities for department members
-
Facilitates collaboration and innovation among department members
Miscellaneous
-
Manages and supervises the MS and US Innovation spaces including ordering and organization of materials

Teaching load as assigned, 2 classes
-
Other duties as assigned
