High School Computer Science Teacher
Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of 980 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant intellectual community draws students from all over the city, admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value academic excellence.
The Berkeley Carroll Upper School Computer Science Department is dedicated to teaching every Upper School student the fundamentals of computer programming, and providing a pathway for interested students to build on that knowledge in advanced classes across a range of topics. Our compulsory 9th and 10th grade courses teach foundational skills, and our electives, in areas such as iOS programming, web design, and game design, build on those skills. Our CS program has grown in popularity every year since its formation in 2014 and we now have need of a second faculty member to help meet the demand. Berkeley Carroll is seeking a computer science teacher to teach our 9th grade CS course, as well as sections of our 10th grade course. They will also work with other members of the department to develop new courses, ideally in their own areas of interest and expertise. In addition, the computer science teacher will collaborate with faculty in other departments to explore opportunities for incorporating computer science into existing curricula. Strong candidates will also have an interest in being active members of our school community, including involvement in student life: as a grade advisor, leader of a student club, advisor to a publication, or the coach of a team. Duties: Requirements: Berkeley Carroll is committed to an inclusive program and a diverse faculty and student body. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and experience with diversity, equity or inclusion work are especially encouraged to apply. Please send a resume and cover letter to Aidan Lucey, chair of the Upper School Computer Science Department, alucey@berkeleycarroll.org.
