Information Systems Security Manager

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Information Security with managing the University’s overall security strategy and compliance effort.
This position fulfills the cybersecurity role of Information Systems Security Manager (OV-MGT-001) under the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) defined by NIST SP 800-181.
Summary of Responsibilities:

Supports and advises University departments and units on information security and compliance needs including system security, network security, research security, software security, and regulatory and legal requirements.

Assists with the development of Information Security policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of information security and compliance at the university through audits, risk assessments, and routine scanning.

Ensuring University units and departments are complying with IT security policies.

Provides recommendations and justification for new security initiatives to the Director of Information Security.

Manages Information Security staff in the absence of the Director of Information Security.

Troubleshoots interoperability problems among different systems related to IT security.

Plans and considers cost and operational needs and benefits and new security systems.

Works on information security projects as directed by the Director of Information Security.

Works with other information security staff with operational tasks including firewall modification, privileged access removal, log/event review, and end-user support tickets.

Performs other duties as directed by OIT Director of Information Security.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and five years of appropriate experience in the Information Security field required.

GIAC GSLC or ISACA CISM certification preferred.

Existing certification approved by DoDD 8570/8140 at the IAM II level and GIAC GSLC or ISACA CISM certification preferred.

Knowledge of Federal laws including HIPAA, FERPA, CFAA, and GLBA required.

Knowledge of cyber-threats and defensive countermeasures required.

Experience in vulnerability management and remediation required.

Knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery operations required.

Experience with writing and drafting security policies required.

Experience managing enterprise firewalls and intrusion prevention systems required.

Strong written and oral communication skills required.

Strong working knowledge in the following foundational security areas: Networking, Operating Systems, Desktops required.

Knowledge of application vulnerabilities in software applications including web application required.

Prior customer service experience in an IT related field of work required.

Prior experience working for a higher educational institution or governmental entity preferred.
Salary: $90,000

Work Days and Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
On-call duty is required. Mandatory overtime is required during cutover, state of emergency, or as required by Director.
