Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), the Information Technology Manager will provide leadership and day-to-day management of technology related functions in CAHSS. The position serves as a resource and support for college stakeholders as they manage technology and develop research, artistic, instructional and business processes. The Manager will use knowledge of software, hardware and IT systems to efficiently and effectively implement new initiatives and improvements to the College’s use of technology, and will recruit and supervise a team of one to four employees who provide desktop and system support to employees in the College. This position requires a high level of skill in a wide variety of related areas including databases, hardware, software, networking, mobile systems (Android and iOS) and knowledge of compliance with current technology standards. The Technology Manager serves as the primary liaison with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), as well as acting as a liaison to university departments, external vendors, and as a College representative on department and University-wide committees, and therefore must be competent at a high administrative and interpersonal level.

This is a new position in the College and the successful candidate, working alongside other members of the College, will develop the systems to provide adequate support for the College’s diverse units. This effort will include hiring at least one other person to provide everyday support for the College and investing time and effort in assessing the needs of the College. The new IT Manager will have to demonstrate flexibility not only working with a diverse group of people, but also in supporting all aspects of the College’s work. Of particular importance will be the needs of heavy IT users, such as Visual Arts, that often need creative solutions to problems, not always found in off the shelf IT packages.

Specific duties include:

  • Collaborating with College stakeholders on new Technology initiatives and provides leadership to Division employees around best practices in use of Technology;

  • Supervising one to four employees who provide technology support to College staff;

  • Assisting CAHSS Chairs and Directors in development and planning of IT budgets based on analysis of historical spending and assessment of future needs;

  • Analyzing requirements to assist individual departments with the development and improvement of technology-supported processes;

  • Working closely with the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to ensure CAHSS priorities are considered and supported;

  • Providing training and support opportunities around technology to College;

  • Working with individual units within the College to help them maintain accurate records of software and hardware to maximize efficiencies and take advantage of new services in the marketplace;

  • Coordinating CAHSS compliance with Sensitive and Capital Inventory processes;

  • Working with University stakeholders to support College compliance with audit requirements;

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Information Technology.  Must have:  knowledge of software, hardware and IT systems; creative problem solving skills; good communication skills; and supervisory/leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in a higher education environment

  • Experience working with multiple constituencies

  • Ability to work independently
