Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a related field and four years of professional information technology experience, including supervisory experience

  • Experience handling sensitive and/or confidential information with tact and diplomacy

  • Experience analyzing and solving complex situations and issues clearly, creatively, and critically

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent project management, organizational skills, timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail

  • Experience with End-User Desktop Management preferably with Configuration Manager and Group Policy controls, communication tools such as zoom or skype, systems monitoring, program delivery and/or reporting.

  • Experience with Windows Powershell, Windows Group Policy Knowledge and troubleshooting, Windows Configuration Manager experience, Mac OS software, printer management and updates, MAC JAMF system management

About the Job

The Hormel Institute’s Information Technology Manager, reporting to the Research Computing and Information Technology (RCIT) Director, will operate as part of a team that pools expertise in multiple IT disciplines to support the wide array of services and platforms needed for efficient operation of The Hormel Institute, a biomedical research institute located in Austin, MN. The Information Technology Manager will be responsible for facilitating desktop and network support and provide expertise with user support issues and supervising additional end-user support employees. The IT Manager responsibilities will also include overseeing software installations and management.  

The Hormel Institute is invested in talent development and professional development, and will offer additional education and training for qualified candidates.

Major Responsibilities

40% Develops and manages desktop support to end users

  • Develop and implement best practices for Software Application Management (Configuration Manager and Group Policies)

  • Anticipate, plan for and provide strategies for Conference Room/Zoom meeting support

  • Manage and maintain the state of the art VOIP phone systems

  • Develop, maintain and enhance tools and guidelines for the Hormel Institute researchers and operations staff users

  • Collaborate with UMN Office of Information Technology (OIT) and colleagues as needed to ensure operations at HI align with other UMN campuses

  • Analyze and propose new technologies, processes, and best practices on a regular basis to leadership as applicable to this area.

  • Other related duties as assigned

25% Develops and manages printer systems, network and WIFI connectivity

  • Develop strategies and support for Network VLAN and IP management

  • Manage and support centralized printing services and review strategies for improved service

  • Analyze and propose new technologies, processes, and best practices on a regular basis to leadership as applicable to this area.

  • Other related duties as assigned

25% Develops and manages core infrastructure systems for authentication and security

  • Manage Active Directory Forest and Group Policies

  • Provide Software Updates and Firewall (Fortigate) management

  • Analyze and propose new technologies, processes, and best practices on a regular basis to leadership as applicable to this area.

  • Other related duties as assigned

10% Create documentation, training and instruction guides for users

  • Provide materials as needed for training users, providing guidance for all new initiatives, services, and resources from the IT department

  • Other related duties as assigned
