Information Technology Manager - Computing Services
The IT Manager-Computing Services (legal title: Assistant Director, Computer Services/L) is a full time, renewable, position, located in Madison, Wisconsin, reports to the Deputy Chief Information Officer and is part of the Central Information Technology Services (CITS) Department. Central IT is an integrated unit responsible for supporting core technical operations for the 13 University of Wisconsin Colleges, the University of Wisconsin Colleges-Online program, the four University of Wisconsin-Extension Divisions, and Central Administration. This position will manage a team of technical staff supporting Linux servers, Windows servers, Oracle and SQL-Server databases.
The position works under general supervision.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS: 50% A. Computing Services Operations - Responsible for the daily operations of the Computing Services Team. A1. Manage daily operations for all aspects of Linux Server Team A2. Manage daily operations for all aspects of Windows Server Team A3. Manage daily operations for all aspects of Database Team A4. Ensure timely resolution of incidents and requests by adhering to departmental standards, and applicable service level agreements. A5. Act as an escalation point for after-hours emergencies. A6. Act as an Incident Commander for service outages. A7. Maintain client’s confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential, while delivering service in a professional and positive manner. A8. Contribute to effective, quality computing services operations by reviewing ongoing maintenance/patch management plans, developing server support standards, procedures and policies. A9. Produce reports showing service delivery results as compared to established departmental metrics.
30% B. Computing Services Team Personnel Management - Responsible for all aspects of personnel management including hiring and evaluating team members. B1. Supervisor Activities: including hiring, establishing work schedules and professional development planning. B2. Performance Management Activities: including evaluating performance and implementing disciplinary actions as needed. B3. Clearly communicate priorities, establish due dates for all tasks and hold staff accountable for meeting established due dates. B4. Conduct regular individual (1-on-1) meetings with all team members. B5. Provide team members the orientation, training and support necessary to operate as an effective member of the Computing Services Team. B6. Contribute to team success by ensuring cross-training within the team, cross-training backup persons and accomplishing assigned results as needed.
10% C. CITS Management Team - Contribute to the overall success of CITS C1. Maintain effective working relationships with other members of the CITS Management Team. C2. Ensure that Computing Services Team members work effectively on projects, tickets and daily operations with the technical staff of other CITS Teams.
10% D. Professional Development - Maintain professional and technical knowledge. D1. Keep abreast of current trends, techniques and advances in Linux, Windows, databases, server virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, cloud architecture, and other related IT related disciplines. D2. Participate in workshops, seminars, or skill development programs as assigned D3. Maintain and expand professional networks by participating in UW System-wide programs and national professional societies. D4. Perform other duties as assigned.
