Information Technology Network Specialist

The Department of Geosciences seeks an Information Technology Network Specialist to maintain a diverse computer environment (workstations and servers; Windows, MacOS, Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS), Website Maintenance (Drupal, PHP, MySQl, Apache).

This analyst will perform system security and administration, network security and administration, database design and maintenance. In addition to workstation/laptop software/hardware end-user support, must know or be willing to learn web site and web application development and maintenance.

The analyst will work directly with end-users in order to maintain all workstations and plan for future needs.

• Maintains, monitors, and supports data and voice networks including client connectivity, authorization, and authentication mechanisms.

• Implements and monitors network, servers and workstations security (firewall, anti virus, and intrusion detection software).

• Installs, configures, and performs maintenance on systems hardware and software for desktops (Windows, Mac) and servers (Windows and Linux OS).

• Evaluates end-user hardware/software needs.

• Designs, implements, and maintains web applications and web sites. Writes and maintains computer code and tests applications.

• Designs, implements, and maintains databases.

• Performs backups and evaluates backup needs for end-user.

• Responsible for departmental inventory and surplus.

Skill Sets:
Fundamental understanding of Linux operating system
Fundamental understanding of Active Directory and Group Policy
Ability to write shell scripts using bash.
Ability to write code using HTML, PHP, and CSS
Familiarity with security, backup, and synchronization procedures
Familiarity with programming in C, fortran, python, matlab

Knowledge:
Knowledge of Linux and Windows Server security and administration
Knowledge of desktops security and administration
Knowledge of PC and Printer diagnostic and repair at the hardware level
Familiarity with Drupal, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS

Five years of progressive information technology experience in area of assignment which may include systems administration, network systems administration, applications design/development, database design/development or administration, must know or be willing to learn web site design/development or administration, business analysis and/or workstation/end-user support OR, and Associate’s degree in Information Technology or a related area AND four years of progressive information technology experience in area of assignment which may include systems administration, network systems administration, must know or be willing to learn web site design/development, business analysis and/or workstation/end user support; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
