Job Summary:
The Academic Computing and Communications Center at UIC is seeking an IT Support Associate (Academic Technologist - Hardware). 
 
The Academic Computing and Communications Center is an agile organization, with a collaborative and team centered environment that provides IT leadership, academic technology infrastructure and services at University of Illinois at Chicago. We excel at supporting 40,000 staff, faculty and students across a diverse and comprehensive university in the heart of Chicago. Our services include campus wide networking, teaching and learning, identity and access management, communications, research computing, IT security, application development, web services, compliance and more.
 
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Learning Technologies Support, this position is primarily responsible for supporting the academic technology installed in formal and informal learning environments, including integrated multimedia systems, computer stations, and printers.  The focus for this position is on providing second-tier troubleshooting support for these systems, escalation of higher level incidents to respective responsible parties both internal and external, and associated task assignment and training for a student employee team. Additional duties include responsibility for routine preventative maintenance checks of supported systems installed in UIC learning environments, following defined office processes and suggesting improvements for those processes, and providing various general services to the clients of the office. This position requires use of a mobile phone for communication with team members and to address service emergencies.
 
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Assist clients in using academic technologies, including integrated multimedia, computer, and printer systems, installed in learning environments.

  • Diagnose equipment problems with academic technology systems in department-supported facilities.  Troubleshoot/escalate incidents and follow through until incidents and problems are resolved.

  • Participate in cross-training exercises with coworkers to ensure all staff in office can provide a basic level of support for the various services managed by the team.

  • Task assignment and follow-up for a group of students to ensure quality provision of services.

  • Participate in the development of associated documentation to ensure efficient service provision and support: internal knowledgebase of procedures for common requests/incidents, training guides, manuals, and how-to documents. Participate in individual or group faculty development workshops in response to faculty needs.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent

  2. A minimum of 1 year professional experience supporting Academic Technologies which includes; demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining academic technologies utilized in teaching and collaboration in both classroom and web based environments. Support includes but not limited to learning management systems and integrated multimedia systems (e.g. Crestron/AMX/Extron-controlled audiovisual systems including elements such as projectors, LCD displays, computers, speakers, scalers, digital signal processors, etc).

  3. Demonstrated knowledge of the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of integrated multimedia systems (e.g. Crestron/AMX/Extron-controlled audiovisual systems including elements such as projectors, LCD displays, computers, speakers, scalers, digital signal processors, etc) or public use computer or printing stations is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • InfoComm Certified Technology Specialist and/or CompTIA A+ certification

  • Experience hiring and supervising student employees
