General Summary
The Web Designer develops visual and frontend web designs for college, department, and unit digital products. These digital solutions will creatively promote the University's image and message to prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff. In addition to developing graphics and Web template elements, this position is also responsible for assisting departments in visually communicating identity on digital platforms, which utilizes the ability to balance multiple, sometimes competing, brand identities on a single site, as well as across the University
This position serves as the main resource to the Creative Operations Manager to assist on development and implementation of complex visual design solutions. This position works closely with other graphic designers, application developers, content strategists, accessibility coordinators, and non-technical clients to meet the web standards put forth by the WEB office.
Technical Duties include:

Implementing Web Graphic Design for websites and web applications along with long-term and day-to-day maintenance for those websites

Leverage visual technologies to help create a common-sense website user experience

Performing Technical Support & Incident Management providing subject-matter expertise on web design best practices

Perform Core and Integration Testing of all planned Changes for digital solutions
-
Create, Maintain and Update design specific documentation like Style Guides, Templates, and reusable graphic assets
Additional Information:
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Web Design, Multimedia/Interactive Design, Graphic Design, Graphic Communications, or closely related field earned prior to hire or obtained within 6 months of hire.
-
Demonstrated experience in resolving complex design problems, assisting designers with technical solutions, and creating highly technical digital designs.
-
One year of experience (professional or coursework) managing web content using various Content Management Systems (CMS) including OU Campus and WordPress.
-
Three years of experience (professional or coursework) with computer design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or Sketch
-
One year of experience (professional or coursework) color-correcting and editing digital photographs
-
Two years of experience (professional or coursework) designing and maintaining websites and applications, utilizing the following technologies: HTML markup and CSS
-
One year of experience (professional or coursework) working with Marketing departments and applying branding standards to create visual continuity between print, web, and interactive materials for all clients

Demonstrated experience in Graphic Design areas such as:

use of computer design software

advanced drawing

art history
-
psychology of colors
-
advanced photographic techniques

arranging setup and taking pictures

producing fully rendered original freehand illustrations

Advanced sense of visual identity and visual communication and knowledge of color theory, photo composition, and research as evidenced through a portfolio of work.

Awareness of current trends in the web, both among private industries and higher education
