Innovation Specialist
The Innovation Specialist will maintain, coordinate and facilitate a Pine Crest iLab. The ideal candidate has exemplary teaching skills, a passion for helping students to make ideas tangible, and an enthusiasm for out-of-the-box ideas.
Job Responsibilities

Develop and deliver project-based learning activities that focus on the integration of learning technologies, engineering, and a connection to real-world problems and the core curriculum in the Lower, Middle, and Upper School iLabs

Collaborate with faculty members in the Lower, Middle, and Upper School to create and deliver project-based learning activities

Develop learning experiences for students using programs that include: Google Apps, Creative Suite Adobe, Tinkercad, Google Sites, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and Adobe Illustrator

Maintain and instruct usage of equipment in the Lower, Middle, and Upper School iLab, such as 3D printers, Laser engraving machinery, etc.

Assist with the Middle School and Upper School Technology Student Association classes and academic clubs

Provide training opportunities for teachers on how to use the resources in the iLab

Provide instruction and support to Middle School and Upper School students during the Open Lab Lunch periods

Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging technologies, and new educational technologies and tools that may be incorporated into the iLab

Run safety training for all who are in the iLab; monitor that safety is practiced at all times

Help students acquire skills with tools, tool safety, and other aspects of hands-on fabrication

Work with students and faculty members to help them achieve their project visions

Track use of consumable materials, reorder as needed

Help build enthusiasm among students in project-based learning activities

Provide opportunities for students to implement, test, and deploy solutions while taking into consideration real-world constraints

Create opportunities for students to think critically, explore, investigate, and engage as problem solvers

Encourage students to pursue their passions through hands-on exploration

Cooperate with other instructional leaders to integrate the use of iLab
-
Incorporate 2D and 3D computer-assisted design and drafting, Raspberry Pi technology, Arduino code, Python, C++, and Java programming into the Middle School and Upper School iLab projects and competitive events

Help build enthusiasm among students in the area of coding, emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and virtual reality.

Present sessions at the School’s annual Innovation Institute and Teachers Teaching Teachers
Background Preferences
-
B.A. in a related field; advanced degree preferred
-
Experience teaching in a classroom, preferably in an independent school
OR
- Experience working with students on projects (hands-on learning)
