Instructional Design Technology Specialist

SUMMARY 

Under the direction of an assigned administrator, develop, plan, program and implement a variety of aspects relating to the college or district websites, related web-based instructional activities, and instructional materials. Provide technical assistance and advice on web design/applications to faculty and staff utilizing web information and online instructional modalities. Collaborate effectively with the coordinator for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), network specialists, college administration, and District Information Systems personnel. Work under limited supervision within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures, including Federal, State and college requirements pertaining to accessibility for the disabled to web-based information. 

The person in this position will work in close collaboration with the faculty leading the migration from BlackBoard to Canvas and provide assistance and training to instructors. Focus for this substitute position is mostly on making recommendations to instructors on best practices and helping them use instructional tools that increase students' interest and learning, facilitate their navigating through the course, and contribute to retention and success in the online modality. Help desk assistance, be it remote or in person, and troubleshooting are also a key component. Little time will be dedicated to web management. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Design, implement and maintain the official college or district web sites.

• Prepare web pages using the current tools for content management and web scripting languages. 
•  
• Serve as primary resource to ensure that Federal, State and college web-based accessibility standards for the disabled are met. 
•  
• Assist and support faculty and staff with web presentation tools and methodology, and online course management strategies utilizing institutionally-adopted web-based software packages. 
•  
• Work with administrative personnel and faculty for the creation, design and implementation of web pages. 
•  
• Act as a primary contact person for user questions related to the functionality of the college or district web sites and assist in analyzing problems and/or debugging.

• Act as primary contact person for user questions related to administrative offices, instructional departments, and general college inquiries. 
•  
• Demonstrate and utilize excellent interpersonal communication skills. 
•  
• Utilize strong graphic design skills and abilities. 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS 

• Provide design input, implementation and maintenance of web-based instructional activities. 
•  
• Implement and maintain web-based multi-media, including audio/video streaming and software tools. 
•  
• Provide faculty and staff assistance for use and operation of institutionally-adopted/supported applications of educational software and operating systems.  
•  
• Maintain currency in new and emerging computing and educational technologies, including software, data storage, etc. 
•  
• Attend job-related courses and seminars to maintain state-of-the-art technological knowledge, particularly as applied to curriculum, instruction and web pages.

• Assist in the development and presentation of on-line course and web-related workshops.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's Degree with course work in computer science, educational technology, or a related field and at least two years of demonstrated professional/commercial web page development and design experience. Specialized training and experience in World Wide Web and instructional design must be included.

ABILITY TO:
