BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

The Instructional Technology Coach (ITC) must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and be a licensed teacher. Successful experience in public education as a teacher is beneficial. He/she must have experience in integrating technology in the classroom. He/she must have experience using computers and peripherals effectively in a classroom setting. NETS•T certification and a Master's degree in Educational Technology are preferred.

Instructional Technology Coach candidates must also complete a portfolio and candidate eligibility interview as part of the application process.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

Must hold a Virginia teaching certificate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK: 

The primary functions of the ITC are to assist teachers with the planning and integration of technology in academic settings, train teachers to use technology in an effective manner, and assist with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology. To perform this position successfully, it is necessary to collaborate on an ongoing basis with the school Technical Support Specialist (TSSPEC). This professional partnership is critical to the success of technology implementation and integration. The ITC is responsible for modeling instructional strategies, providing training and professional development to staff, supporting curriculum, and performing similar kinds of duties and responsibilities as the School Division/Building Administrator deems appropriate.

The ITC must demonstrate the professional ability and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with school personnel and members of the community. He/she must possess the ability to deliver articulate presentations and written reports and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, teachers, administrators, and students. The ITC must be knowledgeable about successful integration of technology into the classroom. The ITC must be able to communicate and provide professional development effectively to all staff members. The ITC must be able to locate online and software-based SOL resources, including test preparation materials, and enable accessibility for students and teachers. The ITC should provide training and support to teachers in using Web page applications and help support the school-based Web site.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK: 

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class education;

  • Assist teachers and staff with the integration of technology in an academic setting;

  • Provide professional development to staff in the utilization and integration of technology;

  • Assist with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology;

  • Model instruction for teachers and teach students in the appropriate use of technology;

  • Provide professional development to teachers to help create lesson plans that integrate technology and then model technologically-integrated lessons for teachers;

  • Provide basic troubleshooting for technology related issues; 

  • Collaborate with TSSPEC to include troubleshooting, installation and configuration of software, software management, and all other technology concerns within the guidelines of the Acceptable Use Policy;

  • Participate in ongoing professional development in order to investigate and identify current best practices related to the integration of technology;

  • Manage online instructional applications and assist with technology-based testing programs;

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the schoolwide technology plan; 

  • Assist at other schools or locations as needed; and

  • Complete other duties as assigned.
