JOSEPH WHARTON, FOUNDER In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Duties |
This position works collaboratively with faculty and colleagues, facilitating technology that supports extraordinary teaching in the School’s degree programs and related initiatives.

Assist faculty in providing content to students in face-to-face and web-enhanced courses by designing and configuring LMS(learning management system, currently Canvas) sites with attached interoperable teaching tools and related connected platforms.

Provide support and advice for using learning platforms and teaching tools to faculty, teaching assistants, staff, and students; contribute to evening/weekend on-call rotation.

Research, apply and continuously improve the School’s best practices for all aspects of instructional technology, including online exams and classroom response tools.

Lead or contribute to projects for improving teaching technology and service delivery at Wharton,

Grow expertise in LMS, educational technology, and teaching techniques across Wharton through consultations and workshops for Wharton faculty, teaching assistants, and staff.

Develop and maintain templates, checklists, training materials, knowledge bases, and other communications that reinforce instructional technology best practices, Wharton systems and processes, and LMS success; contribute to related University-wide programs.

Qualifications |

Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years progressively responsible experience in instructional technology or information technology support for academia. (Higher education experience preferred.)

Evident skill and passion for helping educators succeed in teaching.

Understanding of presentation, communication, and assessment tools for education and related accessibility requirements.

Expertise in authoring multimedia content with Microsoft Office Suite, HTML/CSS, web video, and similar tools.

Substantial working knowledge of LMS platforms for higher education, such as Canvas (strongly preferred), Brightspace or Blackboard.

Track record of managing instructional projects successfully.

Demonstrated interest in advancing education, including research and evaluation of new technologies and methodologies.

Some programming experience in a scripting language such as Python or JavaScript. (Familiarity with cloud computing and agile methodologies preferred.)

Excellent presentation, writing, and customer service skills. Effective communication with technical and non-technical audiences is critical to success in this position.

The ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is required, as is problem solving, juggling multiple priorities, and working within set time frames.

Candidates must be willing and able to participate in the team’s on-call evening and weekend support rotation.
