Job Summary

The Instructional Technology Specialist collaborates with teachers and school administration to facilitate the use of technology system-wide and in the classrooms. The Instructional Technology Specialist’s job is to foster both appreciation and understanding of how technology can impact learning for the students’ future. The Instructional Technology Specialist is a key participant and leader in promoting best practices for technology integration in the school program.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators in curriculum development to promote digital-age learning and teaching experiences
  • Performs demonstration lessons for teachers to improve computer competencies and to integrate technology into all subject areas
  • Provides training to teachers in the use of current technology to meet curriculum goals
  • Assesses needs and plans for new technology and communicates them to the technology committee and administration
  • Serves on the school leadership team to develop an IB Career-related program that will be most suited to the local conditions and needs of students
  • Assist or teach a career-related course or computer applications course
  • Monitor new technological developments and train faculty and staff on new teaching strategies. Examples may include audio/video production, digital imaging, visual literacy, design, working with cloud based management tools, instructional media for students, online learning, and creating a digital portfolio that demonstrates student growth, abilities, and understanding
  • Provide technical support, assistance, training and tutoring on new computer software, hardware and related equipment
  • Provides assistance in the selection, ordering, receiving, and installation of new equipment and software
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, and recommends repairs, as needed.
  • Assist with update of databases, social media and Web pages
  • Train students on media center equipment, fix technical problems and assist in operations during screenings, multimedia lectures and special events
  • Promote digital citizenship, multiculturalism and ethical behavior in the global culture

Qualifications and Skills

· A Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and/or Instructional Technology

· Will consider a Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 years experience in Education, Computer Science, Technology, Instructional Design, or Telecommunications

· Valid New Mexico Teaching Licensure with proper endorsement in assigned teaching area(s)

· Consultant - Optional consideration for one (1) semester

· Prior teaching experience and understanding of classroom instruction and how technologies are actually used in a classroom setting.

· At least (3) three years successful experience as classroom teacher in a secondary school

· Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), preferred

· Curriculum Training in IBDP or IB Career Track program, preferred

· Well-organized with proficiency in technology and computers and an aptitude for teaching

· Strong problem-solving, research, and planning skills

· Knowledge of and experience with a number of software and hardware programs that are used in a professional and academic environment

· Ability to make quick decisions and multi-task

· Excellent oral and written communication skills and human relations skills

· Effective communication skills in interacting with students, parents and the general public

· Ability to teach at the high school level including technology, business and career education

· Current in emerging technologies and software

· An understanding of the IB Diploma Programme, preferred

· Knowledge of exam syllabuses and curriculum requirements

· Awareness of appropriate teaching strategies and best practice research

· Appreciation of the ethos of students in a boarding school setting

· Basic knowledge, understanding, and respect for the Navajo language, history, and culture

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Blackboard and SQL; operation of LCD projectors, Windows and Macintosh operating systems and network servers

Salary: $60,000.00 /year
