Position Description

The Instructional Technology Support Specialist will support faculty in their use of
educational technology. Primary responsibilities include supporting faculty in their use of the University’s Learning Management System (LMS) Blackboard Learn, and other supporting software applications such as Panopto, Turnitin, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Qualtrics, TurningPoint, and Top Hat.

This support takes the form of analyzing faculty needs, designing and delivering workshops, developing support materials, holding one-on-one consultations, visiting small groups of faculty, and troubleshooting problems over the phone, through email, or by screen sharing.

Additional responsibilities include evaluating the performance and potential use of new learning and teaching technologies and recommending technologies to acquire, as well as developing testing scripts for new and existing programs. A strong candidate will have had several years’ experience interacting directly with senior faculty in a customer service role with little or no oversight. The outstanding candidate will be able to multitask to lead short- and mid-term projects while working in a demanding customer service environment.

Skills working as an editor or administrator in a web content management system (CMS) such as WordPress are desirable as is familiarity with basic HTML/CSS/PHP. Analytics experience with products like Google Analytics and Tableau is a plus, as is a basic understanding of SQL. Knowledge and familiarity with working with audio and video files is a plus as is experience designing interactive eLearning content.

A bachelor’s degree in the field of Educational Technology, Information Science, or closely related field is required.

At least 3 years of experience in academic technology, distance learning, web design, or gamification.

Must possess strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to exercise mature judgment. Knowledge of adult learning principles and experience in teaching or training, preferably at the college/university level, is a plus as is experience working with faculty in a higher education environment.
