Landon School, an independent day school for boys in grades 3–12 in Bethesda, Maryland, seeks an Internal Communications Manager. This position is for you if you are passionate about education, you love to write, and you thrive on attention to the smallest detail while thinking “big” about how to share our school’s story.

Description

As our Internal Communications Manager, you may have a workday that includes writing and editing content for our website, magazine, blog, newsletters and other publications. You may interview students, teachers and alumni. You may also use your InDesign skills to create and update invitations, flyers and posters for school events. You may take photos with a DSLR camera and edit them in Photoshop, shoot video for our website and YouTube channel, plus post on our social media accounts. You will join a team of four — including an External Communications Manager, Database/Website Manager, and Director of Communications — that is passionate about our school mission and committed to boys education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage distribution of our school newsletters, which includes writing stories and gathering content from divisions and departments.
  • Manage publication of our biannual Landon Magazine, which includes writing and editing as well as working closely with our graphic designer.
  • Proofread materials for the Development Office, Admissions Office and other school departments.
  • Review and refine our communications strategy with an understanding of audience, message and data analytics.
  • Assist the external communications team with graphic design, photography, social media and video.

Qualifications

You are patient, levelheaded, and cool under pressure. You can explain just about anything to anyone and can earn trust easily. You develop strong relationships with colleagues at all levels. You are organized, proactive, and enjoy taking on difficult challenges and finding innovative solutions. You show a natural curiosity about the school and the entire education industry that leads to creative thinking about how to effectively communicate and engage with our community.

You know how to use the Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and InDesign, and you understand content management systems. You are able and willing to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evenings, weekends and summers.
