This position will be an integral part of the Merit team.
The IT Engineer aids the Information Technology team with providing large-scale, high-volume infrastructure and end user services to the public sector community in Michigan.

WHAT YOU'LL DO *
Essential functions for this position are followed be an (E).
As the IT Engineer, this position’s key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Operational Support Activity (60%):
-
Manage servers, applications, and databases including installation, monitoring, patching, configuring interfaces, performance tuning, automation, maintenance, documenting, and backups. (E)

Support core IT services hosted in an environment predominantly running Linux. (E)
-
Support G-suite services for staff to ensure optimal end-user experience. (E)
-
Install, configure, test, debug, and document commercial and open source software. (E)
-
Develop, test, and document scripts and tools for system management and automation. (E)
-
Troubleshoot and solve problems. (E)
-
Perform on-call support for production systems/applications, including problem investigation, escalation, resolution, and communication with our MSC. (E)
IT Engineering, Planning, Processing & Project Activity (30%):
-
Provide customer education/assistance and technical support as required. (E)

Work closely with other groups within the organization to develop and implement migration and upgrade plans for servers, workstations, and applications; to include project plans, task lists, time lines, deployment plans, and rollback procedures. (E)

Recommend technologies and equipment to management for new IT service requirements. (E)

Work closely with other groups within the organization to roll out new products, services, and operational tools. (E)

Assist in the creation and refinement of IT policies and documentation. (E)

Develop and document best practice methods of administering IT systems. (E)
-
Develop project plans, task lists, time lines, deployment plans and rollback procedures. (E)

Analyze performance trends across a variety of systems for capacity planning. (E)
Miscellaneous (10%):
-
Provide customer education/assistance and technical support as required.

Establish group subject matter expertise in infrastructure platforms and participate in knowledge transfers with team members. (E)

Participate in professional development activities to continually improve skills and knowledge in the areas of, IT services and member support. (E)

Participate and provide operational/supplemental analysis and reporting as needed for IT, finance, and other departments. (E)

Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS YOU HAVE *
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, and/or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
-
Minimum of five (5) years systems/software programming activities in a business environment with a comprehensive knowledge of software applications.
-
Minimum of two (2) years prior experience in managing and supporting Windows and/or Linux systems.
-
Minimum of two (2) years prior experience working with and troubleshooting end-user issues.
-
Experience administering Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
-
Experience with PowerShell and/or UNIX shell scripting.
-
Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.
-
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization.
UNDERFILL STATEMENT *
This position is being posted at the Senior level, but we will consider filling it at the Intermediate level depending on the qualifications, experience, and education of the preferred candidates. If filled at the Intermediate level, salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and education level.
