The Desktop Lifecycle Administrator is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a complex imaging system, desktop standards, and application standards for the desktops, mobile devices, and laptop computers across campus.  This position reports to the Lead Infrastructure Engineer.

The Westminster Schools is committed to providing the best technology resources and solutions in support of the school's' mission. The IT Services department is responsible for monitoring the technology needs of the school, evaluating new and emerging technologies, and providing resources necessary to enhance communication for all members of the school community. The IT Services department is also responsible for supporting professional development as it pertains to the integration of technology in the classroom, while maintaining equipment necessary to support the academic and administrative needs of the school.

 

Supervisor: Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Supervisory Responsibilities:  SME- Assistant Casper Admin.

Position Status:  Salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 12-month

Hours of Work:  Standard work week.  Evening and weekend work will be required.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain a complex imaging system and desktop standards and applications in a campus-wide system in a highly collaborative structure and environment

  • Work closely with campus colleagues in planning for services consistent with The Westminster Schools’ mission and strategic objectives, including selection, development methods, and common desktop maintenance practices

  • Work with IT leadership team to formulate and enforce best security and privacy practices on school devices

  • Assist in developing and implementing IT Services strategy for desktop systems management using complex imaging and software provisioning toolsets

  • Plan, design, implement, and document expansion to the campus imaging and software provisioning servers 

  • Test, evaluate, recommend, install and operate hardware, software and network based provisioning servers

  • Monitor, investigate and protect against failure of provisioning servers 

  • Provide and oversee training on the use of a complex imaging system  

  • Assist the Budget manager in maintaining the school’s desktop replacement cycle and hardware inventory

  • Install, configure, manage, and maintain desktop imaging and desktop management solutions, such as JAMF Software’s Casper Suite

  • Stay current with imaging technology and best practices

  • Develop, test, and deploy images to school assets including, but not limited to, laptops, desktops, and mobile (phone and tablet) devices.

  • Refresh the images, update applications, and re-image the end-user computers regularly on a schedule set by IT Services

  • Research, develop, and document processes and procedures for the imaging of all equipment, including mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets

  • Advise and assist users in the planning, selection, integration and use of computer systems and mobile devices 

  • Work with client services team to resolve both large- and small-scale systems issues. Automate resolutions for large-scale requests

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of complex imaging software, desktop system configuration and provisioning, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting, including:  

    • Macintosh computers and operating systems required;

    • Application software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; 

    • Web browsers, such as Firefox, IE and Safari; 

    • Computer peripherals, including printers, CD and DVD drives, other external drives; 

    • Computer networks, including wireless connectivity and VPN; 

    • Virus protection and spyware removal software applications; 

    • Security and registry configuration changes.   

  • Experience with a ticketing system for request assignment, tracking, escalation and reporting

  • Experience with tracking computer inventory on a large scale

  • Proven problem solving and process refinement skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written & spoken

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions and may walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.

 

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
