Job Purpose: Provide project/program leadership and support for information technology project teams - from project initiation to completion. Assignments are typically small projects or associated components of mid- to large scale projects related to implementing new or revised information management systems. Teams are comprised of technical experts, functional area subject matter experts and project managers.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Lead or participate (depending on project size) in defining project goals, objectives, scope and estimates of schedules, resources and costs.

  • Support project execution through continual coordination of planning, tasking, performance reporting, change control and issue management.

  • Confer with functional users within an assigned business or service area to develop plans to address business needs.

  • Coordinate communications among project teams, customers and appropriate levels of management.

  • Prepare and deliver project status reports and presentations.

  • Develop and manage budgets for smaller projects; participate in budget management associated with larger projects.

  • Participate in acquisition of project related goods and contract services. May initiate acquisition process for lower costs acquisitions.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Work Experience: Four to six years job related experience.

  • Certifications: N/A

  • Skills: This job requires skills in project management, budget administration, written and spoken communications, and leadership/supervision and public sector acquisitions. Knowledge of technical concepts, capabilities and limitations for specific technologies or solutions is required as is and understanding of matrix management concepts.

 

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications 

Preferred Work Experience: Working in higher education

Preferred Education: Master’s degree

Preferred Certifications:  Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM)

 

Additional Information: Desire experienced project manager with proven ability to lead a technical project.  Candidate responsibilities will include developing a Work Breakdown Structure, Organizational Change Management and Communications planning, leading project team meetings in partnership with the technical lead, and updating project progress in our project management support tool. Candidate should have an understanding of PMBOK methodologies.

 

Specialized skills required for this job: Familiar with ITIL framework

Department Description 

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers. 

 

Services and resources range from operating and maintaining Georgia Tech's leading-edge wired and wireless networks, which provide Internet and research network connectivity, to protecting the integrity of the Institute' s data and critical administrative systems. 
 

The Portfolio and Project Management Office (PPMO) provides portfolio, project and business process management to campus strategic IT initiatives. A major focus of the organization is ensuring the successful implementation of projects assigned to the PPMO, communicating the value of these projects to the Institute and establishing the OIT PPMO as a center of excellence.
