Southpointe Academy, an independent, K-12, university-preparatory school invites applications from individuals who wish to join our dynamic team. Located in Tsawwassen, BC, the school is home to 545 students with over 80 teachers and support staff. Our graduates attend the top post-secondary schools in Canada, U.S. and the U.K. The School is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) school. We also offer the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) Program to students in Grades 10-12.
 
Southpointe is seeking an IT Support Specialist to support the Director of Technology, being responsible for maintaining and securing the network, desktop support, troubleshooting desktop hardware/software problems, asset tracking and carrying out projects as assigned.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
School Network

  • Monitor and maintain security of the network
  • Provide support in first level troubleshooting within the telecom environment on digital systems
  • Maintain MS Office 365 applications and Adobe Creative Cloud licensing
  • Monitor and manage server security including patch upgrades, spyware and virus removal and testing
  • Ensuring backup of all critical data files securely, for all servers and network storage units
  • Develop strategic plan to provide long term upgrades to network infrastructure
  • Monitor and manage performance of the network
  • Manage MDM services through G Suite and Meraki panels
  • Balance workload and capacity for optimizing bandwidth

IT HelpDesk

  • Handle IT Support tickets
  • Provide user level training on daily applications used, including; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and other computer related skills
  • Set up presentation equipment for staff/student use and ensuring proper installation of operating systems and appropriate software
  • Maintains inventory listing of hardware and software purchased
  • Continually evaluate software and hardware and recommend improvements
  • Preparation and documentation of policies and procedures
  • Build and deploy system images for Mac and Windows operating systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Office 365, Windows 7, 8.1 & 10 and Mac OS in a domain environment
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Ability to troubleshoot mobile devices, ipads and chromebooks
  • Experience in configuring desktop computers, peripherals and accounts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with G Suite for Education and Meraki

Skills and Experience:

  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in the IS/IT environment, preferably in an education setting
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience with Mac OSx and Windows desktop environment
  • Experience in building desktop images and deployment of Mac OSx and Windows environment
  • Proven project management and team working skills
  • A thorough understanding of the challenges experienced working within a school environment
  • Ability to research and find solutions to issues
  • Good client relationship skills with the ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
