Position Summary

The Information Technology (IT) Training and Technical Support Specialist is responsible for coordinating training for faculty and staff by developing and teaching software classes in common desktop, learning management, and administrative software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Access Desire 2 Learn, and Datatel Colleague. The IT Training and Technical Support Specialist will develop, write and maintain training documentation and serve as primary System Administrator for the learning management system, Desire 2 Learn.

Reporting and Supervisory Relationships

Direct reporting relationship to the Manager of Online Learning.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Confer with the Manager of Online Learning to determine technical training needs.

2. Design and develop training guides.

3. Coordinate the development and delivery of training for the faculty with the Manager of Online Learning.

4. Develop and maintain appropriate training documentation and video tutorials on the use of Desire 2 Learn and other technology tools.

5. Serve as System Administrator for Desire 2 Learn. Coordinate with vendor in applying updates and system patches as well as resolution of system issues.

6. Develop and conduct training in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, IE, Firefox and Access. Develop and conduct training on Datatel Colleague software. Support training for programs, mandates, and regulatory obligations such as security awareness.

7. Assist users one-on-one for specific training, as needed, and coordinate and assist users as requested by the Manager of Online Learning.

8. Coordinate with the Help Desk, ITR staff and Manager of Online Learning to address training needs for new software releases, upgrades and/or new products.

9. Support faculty and students with the Desire 2 Learn learning management system and related technologies, by troubleshooting, documenting and tracking issues in face-to-face, hybrid and online courses.

10. Maintain appropriate training documentation.

11. Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the role of this position.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions, Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Employee must be able to stand for long periods of time while conducting trainings.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT), Instructional Design, Education, or a related field.

2. Two years of experience in a training/education environment.

3. Demonstrated excellent knowledge of the Learning Management System technologies and related tools such as Java, Flash Player and web browsers; and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

4. Support faculty and students with a Learning Management System (LMS) such as Desire2Learn, etc., and related technologies by troubleshooting, documenting and tracking issues in the LMS.

5. Knowledge of ADA compliance to provide faculty with assistance in adding content to the LMS.

6. Demonstrated excellent writing, editing, time management and interpersonal skills.

7. Ability to effectively present in front of small to medium-sized groups for extended periods of time.

8. Strong critical thinking skills.

9. Excellent customer service skills.

10. Demonstrated strong planning, organization and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in Information Technology (IT), Instructional Design, Education, or a related field.

2. Five years of experience in a training/education environment.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Datatel Colleague software.
