York House School, located in the heart of Vancouver, is one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Founded in 1932 by seven progressive and insightful women, York House provides an exceptional education for approximately 650 girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.  Overview of PositionReporting to the Director of Junior School, the Junior School Program Coordinator (STEAM) works closely with the Director and the Junior School Science Specialist to support excellence and consistency across SK – Grade 7 interdisciplinary teaching and learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional and assessment practices, a passion for teaching and a strong understanding of how girls learn.Teaching and Learning

  • Responsible for teaching at the Junior School as directed by the Director of Junior School
  • Provide direct support to teachers as they implement and integrate science, mathematics, art and technology in the curriculum
  • Excellent knowledge of the BC Curriculum and latest trends in educational research and pedagogy
  • Experience with using Understanding by Design as a framework to teach for deeper understanding
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Experience and a passion for student-centred, project-based and inquiry-based learning
  • Familiarity with maker education, design thinking, and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in girls
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learning
  • Experience working with STEAM tools, e.g., SketchUP, Scratch, MineCraft, etc…
  • Plan and facilitate workshops for teachers, parents and students as required
  • Demonstrated passion for innovation and creativity in education 

Other Duties & Specific Tasks

  • Other duties as assigned to support the implementation of the strategic priorities of the school
  • Co-curricular participation is required
  • Other supervision duties

  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia Curriculum and pedagogy
  • Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education with specialization in arts or sciences
  • Master's Degree or equivalent is an asset
  • British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience (elementary experience preferred)
  • Experience teaching art, science and math preferred
  • Prefer 3-5 years experience in coordinating or leading within an elementary school
