K-12 Computer Science and Digital Media Head
Germantown Friends School is seeking an innovative K-12 Head of Computer Science and Digital Media. This position would start in September of 2019. Recently ranked the top independent school for STEM in Pennsylvania, GFS envisions an educator who can provide nimble leadership to a highly collaborative department. The head will work to forward the development of its strong existing curriculum, which currently introduces elementary students to technology with an integrated approach, provides middle school students with opportunities for learning about programming and digital media, and provides upper school coursework in more advanced concepts in computer science and digital media. Given this K-12 scope, the candidate will have strong content knowledge and capacity with a wide range of ages. Indeed, the ideal candidate will find joy in teaching students at all grade levels, K-12 and in focusing, to start, on the development of curriculum K-5.
This educator will work with other members of the department to develop new courses, ideally in their own areas of interest and expertise. In addition, the Computer Science and Digital Media Department Head will collaborate with faculty in other departments to explore opportunities for incorporating computer science and digital media into existing curricula. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of child development as it relates to the use of technology in the classroom. Candidates will also have an interest in being active members of our school community, including involvement in student life: as a leader of a student club, advisor to a publication, or in some other capacity.
Duties:

Teach Computer Science and Digital Media courses to Lower School students in an integrated program

Teach Middle and Upper School students Computer Science and Digital Media courses as part of a cohesive program

Develop curriculum within the Computer Science and Digital Media department in collaboration with classroom teachers and other departments
Requirements:

Knowledge of computer languages such as: P5.js (Processing), Python, Java, C, C++, C#

Additionally, knowledge of the following is ideal: CLI (Bash), Swift

Experience teaching computer science and digital media to students at all grade levels is preferred
