K-5 Academic Technologist
The Potomac School is seeking a full-time K-5 Academic Technologist reporting to the Director of Technology & Innovation. This role is responsible for teaching foundational technology classes to students in grades 2-3, as well as supporting teachers and students grades K-5 in the use of technology in the broad areas of productivity, digital citizenship, digital design, data analysis, and coding. Responsibilities also include device management and tier 1 tech support as part of a team that provides support K-12. The general breakdown is 50% teaching, 30% technology coaching with faculty, and 20% help desk support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach technology classes and promote safe and responsible technology use
- Support faculty and staff in efforts to integrate technology through a consistent pattern of outreach, support, and basic troubleshooting
- Foster collaboration with classroom teachers and develop innovative, technology-enhanced lessons and assessments
- Collaborate with all members of the technology team, academic dean, and division head to develop and execute a technology plan
- Model curiosity, enthusiasm, and creative problem solving when using technology
- Make recommendations regarding purchases that advance innovation
- Attends divisional and departmental meetings as necessary
- Manage devices and provide tier 1 tech support
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in education, instructional technology or a related field
- Strong background in teaching and educational innovation with relevant use of technology in a primary and middle school classroom
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing student-centered learning experiences
- Expert in recommending, planning for, and implementing innovative pedagogical practices that promote and enhance teaching and learning best practices
- Working knowledge of basic troubleshooting skills in computer hardware, software, and networking
- Proven leadership, initiative, and communication skills

- Comfort with (and the ability to learn) a wide variety of ever-changing digital tools
- Conversant in new and emerging technologies designed to support learning
- Passion and excitement around the possibilities surrounding technology in supporting, enhancing and transforming the teaching and learning process
- Strong communication skills - especially the ability to explain technology to both children and adults
- A collegial approach and strong desire to be an active member of the technology team
- A large measure of patience and sense of humor
- Effective organization skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
- Demonstrated high degree of independence and proactive initiative
