Description

The Punahou Design thinking, Makery, Engineering, Technology ( D-MET) team aims to build and maintain a student-centered, school-wide environment designed to empower the development of the social-emotional skills, technical abilities, design thinking and growth mindset needed to translate the Punahou aims into positive and purposeful action in the real world.  
 
Punahou School is actively recruiting a Lab Technician to join the D-MET team. The Lab Technician will run the new Richardson Lab dedicated to empowering high school students to take purposeful action.  Through the D-MET curriculum, students encounter a continuous and articulated set of technical skill building experiences.  The Lab Technician will support curriculum by supervising students work in the Richardson lab, which includes the teaching, assisting and using design thinking software and fabrication tools.  The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, responsible, flexible and committed to design thinking, innovation and prototyping. Position Details:

Status: Full Time Regular
FLSA Status: Exempt 
Work Year: 9 Months
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 5:00PM, subject to change based on the needs of the lab
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent combination or training and/or education.  
  • Experience working with Design Thinking or Technology in a high school or university setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
 
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Knowledge of the following fabrication machines:
    • Water Jets (preferred)
    • CNC mills (preferred)
    • Laser cutters
    • 3d Printers
    • CNC routers
    • Plasma cutters
  • Knowledge and proficiency with the following design software:
    • Rhinoceros (or similar)
    • Fusion 360 (or similar)
    • Solidworks (or similar)
    • Onshape (or similar)
    • Adobe Illustrator (or similar)
    • CNC machine path driver's (machine specific)
  • Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies and the proven ability to work cooperatively within a grade level and team to modify and develop materials and assessments within an articulated curricular framework that is embedded in the school's mission, vision, and aims.
