Department Information

The Office of Admissions is a department under the Office of Enrollment Management for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.

Job Summary

Performs technical tasks including new process design, development and analysis, definition of program specifications, database coding and management of recruitment operations projects. Analyzes suspect, prospect and student data and manages information used in internal operations, external reporting and internal management purposes, including manipulation of student data for estimating and projecting recruitment efforts for the Office of Admissions. Takes responsibility for guiding ideas from the development phases through implementation; and makes independent judgments.

Serves as the main contact for outside vendors for collecting, understanding, and processing recruitment data. Defines, develops, codes, maintains, and is responsible for loading data from external and internal sources into the central Student Information System (SIS) and the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Structures and submits data to and from outside entities, conforming to unique specifications and requirements.

Manages all data pertaining to recruitment efforts and reporting. Serves as a member of the data manager team for the Office of Admissions and provides expert resource information on data, data groups, security and software functionality, the Indiana University Information Environment (IUIE) and interpret this data for decision support.

Quickly learns new platforms and toolsets through classes and self-study. Maintains and supports existing student information processing systems in their current operating environments. Provides instructions and guidance to staff, plans work and establish project timelines and manages projects pertaining to suspects and prospects.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer systems technology, or a closely related field and two years of experience working with systems, data management or database analysis and design.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge of query languages such as SQL; and demonstrated ability in developing and understanding complex databases. Advanced analytical skills; ability to summarize and communicate data analysis; and strong technical skills and competence in database applications and scripting languages. Excellent critical thinking skills; and superior attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a customer service orientation and ability to interact with a variety of individuals and analyze and present complex information. Strong organization and multitasking skills including ability to plan and manage multiple tasks and projects of various sizes and complexities simultaneously and adapt to ever-changing tasks and duties; and demonstrated ability to self-monitor quality control and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

Specific experience with PL/SQL, SQL Developer, Oracle Databases, DSS, IUIE, IU Student Information Systems and Customer Relationship Management systems. Previous experience working with a team and Agile project management. Experience with getting data from multiple sources, creating data flow processes, translating data and creating exports of data. Demonstrated ability to provide guidance on federal, state, and IU policies regarding data retrieval, confidentiality and the release of data.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands  
Salary Range $62,000-$66,000 commensurate with experience
