Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Network Communications, Computer Science, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Eight or more years of experience in wired, wireless, or voice enterprise network environments. Earned a CCNA network certification. Experience leading technical transitions and changes. Demonstrated team leadership, problem solving, organizational, analytical, and communications skills. Demonstrated increasing responsibility for interaction with LAN network components and telecommunications systems including routers, switches, network cards, cabling and other devices. Specific expertise in Cisco routing and switching products, Cisco Unified Communications products, or Aruba wireless products. Demonstrated ability to support and troubleshoot DNS, DNSSEC, and DHCP. Technical knowledge and experience in load balancing. Skills in industry best practices for design, maintenance, and troubleshooting for data and voice communications and network systems. Experience with high level diagnostics in a network communications environment. Knowledge of IT and communications problem solving methodologies and data network engineering techniques. Experience with vendor management and IT procurement. Ability to work independently and routinely update director on results. Ability to contribute to group projects and work collaboratively as a member of a strong technical team. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to perform light lifting (50 pounds) as appropriate for equipment installations and maintenance. Flexibility in work schedule; willingness to occasionally adjust work hours for the maintenance window is required: on Wednesdays between midnight and 8 A.M.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3 times a year between semesters; and a few limited weekends as determined. Ability to be on-call for network issues that occur out of normal working hours. Ability to travel for education, professional development, or conferences. Work sample should include a written document of anything related to this line of work. |

Desired Qualifications |
Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field. Training such as CCNP, CCVP, CCDP, CCIE or similar network certifications. Significant experience implementing and supporting Cisco products. Additional experience implementing and supporting products from F5, Juniper and Palo Alto. Experience designing and supporting campus core networking in a campus setting with multiple buildings, data centers and network hubs. Experience designing and supporting data center networking utilizing a spine-leaf architecture. Strong knowledge of implementing routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and others. Familiarity with NSXimplementations within the data center. Familiarity with IPv6 network implementations. Experience with Linux/Unix¬ and Windows operating systems administration as it relates to network engineering. |

Position Purpose |
Join University Technology Services as the Lead Network Architect on the Network Communications team. Oakland University requires a strong network installation to meet campus strategic goals related to teaching, learning, research, business operations, and communications. This position is involved in exciting new technology projects, as well as maintaining the campus communications infrastructure including both Cisco wired and Aruba wireless systems. Working in close coordination with the Director of Network Communications, this position is expected to develop strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies. This position is responsible for high-level network planning, design and optimization. Responsible for technical documentation, specification writing, installation, configuration, and the “always on” operation of new and existing network and telecom systems or special technology projects where appropriate. Lead projects or assume additional responsibilities from time to time as assigned by the Director. |
