The University of Virginia seeks a Learning Technology Specialist (LTS) to join UVA’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE; https://cte.virginia.edu/) . The LST will serve as a point person for the identification, adoption, and assessment of institutional-level learning technologies at UVA. Reporting to the Center for Teaching Excellence, the LTS will facilitate all aspects of the learning technology lifecycle: research, pilot and adoption, integration, outreach and dissemination, and assessment. The Specialist will collaborate and coordinate with Schools and academic support units to ensure that learning technologies meet the varied pedagogical needs of instructors across many disciplines and adhere to University standards for pedagogy, accessibility, privacy, integration, and security. The LTS will use a variety of data streams and tools, as well as feedback from faculty and professional staff in the teaching, learning, and technology domain, to monitor and improve the health of UVA’s learning technology ecosystem. The Specialist should be able to take initiative, be adaptable, have a willingness to learn, and be able to build strong cross-functional relationships with diverse stakeholders.

 

Candidates must possess these minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of instructional computing experience.

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment to achieve goals

  • Willingness to learn new skills.

  • Attention to detail.

 

Competitive candidates will possess some, though not necessarily all, of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of two years’ experience in a professional setting working within a team environment on projects related to learning technologies, software acquisition, or IT implementations.

  • Five or more years’ experience supporting learning technologies in a higher education setting.

  • Current knowledge of learning technologies and learning management systems.

  • Familiarity with learning technology acquisition processes.

  • Solid understanding of the implications of following on learning technology solutions: pedagogy, accessibility, privacy, integration, security, licensing, and financial risk.

  • Significant experience in one or more of the following areas: implementing learning technologies in a higher education environment; leading pilot projects; assessing the efficacy of learning technologies; advising faculty and staff on adoption and use of new learning technologies; asset management and software tracking tools.

 

This position will remain open until filled.  Review of Applicants will begin January 13, 2019.  This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
