Congressional School seeks a Librarian and Technology Integration Specialist for the 2019-2020 school year. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the two libraries in the Early Childhood, Primary, Lower and Middle schools and for improving the integration of classroom and instructional technology at all grade levels.

The Library and Technology Integration Specialist works with faculty and students to incorporate library and technology skills into classroom curriculum and projects. This position will collaborate with the Technology Department in the areas of organizing and supervising training activities, helping establish technology policies, and proposing learning objectives for staff as they relate to technology. The successful candidate will be an expert educator and comfortable collaborating with teachers to plan the integration of library, media and technology into the School’s curriculum.

Responsibilities include providing formal instruction in library, media, and technology skills, including coding, as well as informal assistance to students and staff in locating and using library media materials and technology; and planning and teaching lessons on children’s literature, information resources, search techniques and research methods, both general and in specific subject areas.

Additionally, the Librarian and Technology Integration Specialist will be responsible for daily management of library media center routines, evaluation and selection of library media materials, ordering, circulation control, etc. This position will help integrate new technologies into current classroom practices; identify trends in software, curriculum, teaching strategies and other educational areas; collaborate on the successful integration of hardware, software and Internet resources, in support of student learning; and be aware of educational standards for technology, digital citizenship and others as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively seek opportunities for professional development in Library Science, digital literacy and technology integration

  • Provide information to parents about student performance

  • Perform divisional responsibilities expected of faculty (for example, supervising students outside of class times, attending faculty meetings, etc.)

  • Ensure proper supervision for the safety and well-being of all students

  • Attend school events

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field; Master’s preferred

  • Experience working with Preschool – Grade 8 students in an educational setting, preferable in an independent school

  • An understanding of key learning theories and methods of instruction, and their relation to technology integration, familiarity with methods for integrating technology into the curriculum using mobile devices, and experience with effective technology teaching strategies in teaching software and hardware skills

  • Strong initiative and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
