Librarian for Emerging Technology and Digital Projects

The Librarian for Emerging Technology and Digital Projects spearheads the selection and implementation of emerging technology for Pepperdine Libraries. Through managing the Academic Center for Excellence and co-directing the Genesis Lab makerspace, this position is responsible for developing and executing programs that make use of emerging technology in order to support and advance technology-based information seeking and knowledge navigation.
Duties
- Manage the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), a cross-disciplinary, high impact learning space located in the library. Responsibilities include overseeing equipment, software, and utilization of the space; developing and carrying out technology based workshops; and recruiting, training, and supervising student workers.
- Co-direct the Genesis Lab, a new digital makerspace created as a collaborative initiative with Pepperdine's Information Technology department. In coordination with IT personnel and librarians from the Digital Projects working group, the Librarian for Emerging Technology will develop and implement innovative programs utilizing emerging technology, including 3-D scanning and printing, VR and AR, data visualization, and coding. These programs include a tech-focused summer camp program that will serve as community outreach for the Genesis Lab, while providing an independent revenue stream. Other duties include selecting and maintaining technology (hardware and software) to support lab activities, and overseeing student workers.
- Assist in the development and implementation of online instructional tools in support of the University Libraries' information literacy programs, including methods of assessing the effectiveness of these tools.
- Work with the Librarian for Digital Publishing, Curation, and Conversion to develop and implement innovative digital projects that draw on the Libraries' collections.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
Required: MLIS or MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; sound knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in instructional technology, and a commitment to developing and applying this knowledge in support of student learning and scholarship; the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment; excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
Preferred: Experience designing and delivering online training solutions and/or experience developing, deploying, and managing digital projects; hands-on knowledge regarding fostering and managing makerspaces; and demonstrated supervisory skills. Additionally, experience working with students of all ages - including children and adults - is highly desirable, as is a proficient understanding of the design thinking process.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
