Job Title: Middle School Librarian/Innovation Teacher

Position Type: Faculty, Non-exempt, Full time 10 Months

Reports to: Division Head

Closing Date: When Filled

Start Date: August 2019 for 2019-2020 academic year

Salary: Dependent on Experience

Job Summary

The Middle School Librarian/Innovation Teacher is responsible for supervising the operation of the Middle School Library as well as working in collaboration with Middle School teachers on innovative research projects with students. This position may include teaching Innovation classes in the Middle School. 

Experience and Skills:

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Maintain the Middle School Library collection, including reviewing, ordering, cataloging, processing new materials, weeding out and repairing books

  • Work collaboratively with the Lower School and Upper School Librarians

  • Maintain library calendar

  • Supervise Library Assistants and volunteers to help carry out day-to-day operations

  • Maintain the library physically in a way that is welcoming and a positive reflection of the school

  • Work with the Director of Information Technology to ensure computers and other electronic equipment in the library are sufficient and well-maintained

  • Plan lessons and teach Middle School Innovation classes

  • Keep accurate student records including grades

  • Lead Middle School innovative research projects in collaboration with the classroom teachers

Job Requirements

  • Library Media teaching endorsement or a Masters of Library (and Information) Science preferred

  • Teaching experience preferred

  • Knowledge of design thinking

  • A vision for integrating information literacy and technology in projects

Physical Requirements

  • Able to shelve and read books on low shelves

  • Fine motor skills necessary for processing and repairing books
