Summary:

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to roughly 500 students in grades 6 through 12, including 80 international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. The Northwest School seeks a Library Information Technology Assistant starting in September 2015 for approximately 4 months. This position will work closely with both the Librarian and Educational Technology Coordinator in a combined library and computer lab setting. The ideal candidate will be a team player, comfortable with and enthusiastic about technology and libraries, have the ability to work in a busy and vibrant environment, and skillful at balancing simultaneous, competing demands. Flexibility, energy, patience, and enthusiasm are a key part of this important role, as is an understanding of the needs of Middle and Upper School students, English Language Learners, and faculty. This position is a leave replacement for a regular employee and is temporary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintaining the library and lab environment, services, and resources. This includes cataloging, circulation, and processing of new materials as well as troubleshooting technology questions.

Supervising the library and computer lab, creating a welcoming environment.

Assisting students and faculty with research and technology needs.

Developing written materials for effective use of library and technology resources.

Collaborating with faculty to design and implement lessons and units of instruction.

Fostering and teaching information literacy and digital citizenship throughout the curriculum.

Marginal Responsibilities:

Assisting and leading various activities in the student life of the school.

Working as the faculty advisor for an environment team.

Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity and the environment.

A Master’s degree in Library/Information Science and a Minimum of three (3) years experience are required.

Interest in working with English Language Learners

Flexibility, patience, passion, sense of humor, creativity, and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with Destiny OPAC and Microsoft products (Office365 experience preferred).

Knowledge and comfort of technology tools and trends

Willingness to experience and open to learn

Compensation:

Salary is highly competitive with top independent schools in the region and commensurate with experience.
