Library Media/Technology Specialist
Oakwood School is a K-12 coeducational day school in North Hollywood, California that opened its doors in 1951. The school has remained faithful to its original mission ever since: to create a diverse educational environment where young people are partners with the adults who teach them and learn from them; where the best means of preparing students for the future is to immerse them in the present; where a healthy learning environment requires joy and humor as well as rigorous intensity; and where students’ intellectual and aesthetic depth – along with their capacity for empathy and moral courage – emerge out of authentic engagement with their teachers, one another, and the world around them.”
Oakwood Elementary School recently completed construction of an amazing Story Center that integrates the school’s library with academic technology and locates both functions in the hub of the campus. The Story Center honors the role of narrative and encourages children to be readers, listeners, sharers, collaborators, and creators of stories. It also employs technology in the service of those ends and develops programmatic connections to the classrooms and community. You will foster the skillful use of technology by children and by teachers, encourage meaningful innovation, and partner with the librarian to integrate the multiple functions of the library.
Major responsibilities include modeling and facilitating the use of technology in teaching and learning, planning and implementing effective Information access and delivery and working in concert with our Director of Development and Director of Studies to oversee professional development in educational technology.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Library Science or a related field with emphasis in information technology and 5+ years of relevant teaching experience in a school setting. Current skills in the educational technology arena with a passion for teaching and learning required. Experience facilitating group training sessions for students and faculty required. Occasional non-instructional duties assigned to ensure student safety.
