Library-Technology Integration Specialist
The Library-Technology Integration Specialist develops and oversees a dual library and technology program that is fully integrated into classroom learning. This role will report to the Head of School. While primarily focused on teaching, this role will also collaborate with the Director of Technology to support staff development efforts, provide first-level tech support to classrooms, and give input into technology policy and strategy development.
The technology focus of the dual program will be to help students and teachers to gain information literacy skills, technology competencies, and to improve the integration of instructional technology at all grade levels Nursery through Eighth Grade in a way that complements a progressive educational program. The Library-Tech Integration Specialist will spearhead the creation of a developmentally appropriate learning in the broad areas of physical computing, digital citizenship & literacy, use of social media, computer science concepts such as robotics and coding, and online learning and research. S/he will support and maintain tech equipment, provide classroom support for Smartboards and A/V equipment, administer GAFE accounts, and assist the Director of Technology with documentation, procedures, record-keeping, and other administrative tasks as needed.
The library focus of the dual program will be to oversee daily operation of the library including managing the school’s collection and providing a library curriculum that exposes students to library skills and literature appreciation. The Library-Tech Integration Specialist will manage daily library routines, evaluate and select library materials, place orders, oversee circulation, maintain the library’s atmosphere and appearance, and coordinate parent volunteers. S/he will impart library skills as well as plan and teach lessons on children’s literature, information resources, and research methods.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a passion for books, technology, and supporting learners of all ages. Qualified candidates may hold a Master’s degree in Library Science or related field, and experience working with PS – 8 students in an educational setting in both instructional technology and library sciences. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to collaborate closely with classroom teachers to build cross-curricular integration. Candidates should have an understanding of progressive learning theories and methods of instruction, and their relevance to technology integration, familiarity with methods for integrating technology into the curriculum using a variety of platforms, and experience with effective technology teaching strategies in teaching software and hardware use and care. Software mastery and teaching expertise should include but not be limited to the following examples: Google Apps for Education, Photoshop, imovie, iphoto, apps such as Puppet Pals, podcasting and blogging software such as Voicethread and Kidblog, and appropriate social media platforms such as Edmodo. Hardware use and management expertise in Chrome and Apple operating systems as well as interactive white board technology is also essential.
