LMS Instructional Design Manager
Job Description
Under administrative direction, performs the challenging work of planning, organizing, managing and directing the instructional development and the technical systems administration of online learning web-based education programs by establishing and maintaining effective standards, systems and processes necessary to support the institute's mission, goals and objectives through development and delivery of all online coursework.
Essential Duties
- Hire and supervise a team of instructional support staff to assist with the migration of courses from Blackboard to Canvas
- Meet with College and School administrators to assess their courses and plan for the migration
- As part of the transition team, develop and execute a migration support plan for all courses currently served through Blackboard
- Oversee the creation and curation of training materials including self-help documents, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist faculty in using the new LMS and migrating their courses from the existing LMS
- Oversee development and maintenance of face-to-face and online training and workshop offerings related to the LMS migration topics
- Prepare regular migration status reports for University administration
- Remain current on ASU security best practices and policies as they relate to ASU’s learning management system and associated technology tools
Days and Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM and occasional weekend on-call work
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field AND five years of related experience two (2) of which include higher education online course development and design associated with learning programs and also includes three years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
Evidence of a Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field.
Experience with the following:
- Designing, developing, implementing and revising online courses and course materials in a higher education environment.
- Experience working in a higher education environment, interacting and supporting faculty and administration.
- Experience-based knowledge of online instructional design for adult learning; principles, practices, and techniques; security/permission methods and standards for course access.
- Online course evaluation and Quality Matters best practices and processes.
- Extensive experience using both Blackboard and Canvas.
- Writing, proofreading and editing instructional materials.
- Project management (e.g., managing time, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, meeting milestones and deliverables).
- Experience supervising and managing staff.
- Troubleshooting and supporting faculty use of technology.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.
