The Manager of Information Technology develops, implements, and supports technology plans including the development and maintenance of mission-critical systems and technology infrastructure, disaster recovery and business continuity, and appropriate enhancement of technology-based solutions in all areas of the school. Leading a small team of IT professionals, the Manager of Information Technology is a hands-on professional and provides a high level of user support for all academic and administrative technology needs in a timely and friendly manner. The successful candidate will be a well-organized, solution oriented and systematic problem-solver, with a proven ability to communicate ideas, and develop strong relationships within our community.

Responsibilities:

System Support and Management

  • Oversee and maintain the schools wired and wireless network infrastructure ensuring maximum availability of information systems throughout the school
  • Monitor, maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot the school’s networks including physical devices (i.e., network switches, hubs and routers), wire and fiber optic cabling, etc.
  • Oversee, monitor, configure, maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot all school network servers and services
  • Evaluate network level hardware and software upgrades, organize and oversee their implementation and monitor network performance
  • Accountable for the continued availability, security and integrity of mission-critical systems
  • Accountable for delivery of all IT services and assets throughout the school including software architecture, business and systems analysis, and IT systems and processes
  • Establish and implement an enterprise backup and archive policy for the school including servers, workstations, telephone system, and other technologies
  • Oversee telephone system integrity and implement changes for improved communication
  • Assess and proactively manage risk related to information systems at the school
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure new and existing technologies meet the school’s needs, and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Provide infrastructure software support, programming and troubleshooting as required
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade and repair computers and related equipment
  • Oversee and monitor the printing systems

Leadership

  • Work with senior management to develop a comprehensive plan for technology services within the school
  • Provide advice and research on issues related to information technology, information systems, and the deployment of new initiatives
  • Support technology processes and initiatives within the school such as report cards, financial reporting, student record keeping, and student/parent communication platforms
  • Oversee the Helpdesk function, lend support and ensure accurate and timely resolution of tickets
  • Monitor user support issues, identify patterns, systemic problems and implement actions to improve system usage
  • Educate and support students, staff and faculty in the use of school technology; encourage and facilitate positive end-user behaviour
  • Manage and oversee contractors and additional technology support staff, as required

Administration and Other Duties

  • Establish security policies and procedures to protect the data assets of the school, and to comply with applicable privacy legislation
  • Develop and review policies related to computer and network security, the use of and access to data and electronic communications, and the use of new and emerging technologies
  • Plan for the replacement of computers and related equipment in a manner that maximizes the return on investment while minimizing expenditures on repairs and maintenance of old and outdated equipment
  • Ensure timely and accurate inventory records for all technology equipment and software
  • Keep informed of developments in information technology and educational applications of technology
  • Contribute to annual budgeting forecasts regarding technology; monitor and control all department expenses
  • Ensure compliance with licensing agreements and contracts for all network software and technology related systems
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship with users, vendors, and the ISABC IT group
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum five years experience in a similar IT management role
  • Minimum five years managing a team and/or department
  • Experience with relational databases, in particular FileMakerPro
  • Experience with Active Directory management and PowerShell programming, preferred
  • Extensive Apple product troubleshooting experience
  • Strong knowledge of Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.11
  • Familiarity with Windows server and Linux (Debian/Ubuntu), preferred
  • Familiarity with virtualization using VMware ESXi (vSphere), preferred
  • Familiarity with enterprise Wi-Fi setup and management, preferred
  • Experience with layer 3 network switch management such as HP Procurve or similar
  • Experience and understanding of the International Baccalaureate from JK-grade 12 (PYP, MYP, and DP) would be a strong asset.

  • Ability to successfully juggle multiple projects and deadlines in the face of constant interruptions.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work with all levels of management and staff.
  • Ability to convey technical issues to non-technical people.
  • Ability to handle pressure and stressful situations in an appropriate manner.

  • Physical ability to move computers, printers and other equipment.
