The Instructional Design Manager leads the planning, coordinating, developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving of the various learning and development programs offered for faculty, enrollment, and other practices at Western Governors University. This individual will report to the Director, Learning & Organizational Quality, and will oversee a team of instructional designers in the Student Experience organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage the curriculum development and instructional design function of the Student Experience organization

  • Lead the full training lifecycle

    • Conduct job and task analyses and collaborate with leaders and subject matter experts to identify organizational learning opportunities and training needs

    • Creatively design and develop training curricula for a variety of delivery methods using adult learning methodologies and principles of instructional design

    • Track, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of existing training and development programs utilizing reports, metrics, and assessment tools

    • Coordinate, design, and develop training events to be delivered synchronously and asynchronously as required

    • Manage and track project progress from initiation to completion

  • Ensures developed curriculum meets or exceeds current student outcome metrics and improves the student experience

  • Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals

  • Monitors employee performance and quality evaluations for training needs

  • Participates in Train-the-Trainer events as needed

  • Advises on quality and selection of curricular and assessment vendor products

  • Consults with subject matter experts to address and resolve escalated program issues

  • Promotes training events and programs in company communication channels in order to maximize attendance and participation in those programs

  • All other duties as assigned

Travel Requirement

  • May be required to travel at least 25%
 
Required Skills
  • Deep knowledge of adult learning, developmental theories, and transformational education and learning

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced presentation and facilitation skills, including online or virtual training platforms (e.g., Skype, WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc.)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Project management expertise

  • Attention to detail and quality awareness

  • Customer service and relationship management skills

  • Ability to work flexibly in a team environment

  • Demonstrable expertise with training, multimedia, and Microsoft Office software

  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required

Required Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Business, or related field

  • 5 years of experience as an instructional designer

  • 3 years of experience in people management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience

  • Experience managing remote teams
