Position Overview

The Media Specialist is a dynamic, energetic educator with exemplary teaching skills, out-of-the-box

ideas, technology savvy, and the ability to instill creativity and critical thinking in all learners.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

  • Strong interpersonal skills required

  • Experience in Media Studies

  • Outgoing, strong customer service skills

  • Proficiency in basic computing skills

  • Experience with Library Database programs

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with faculty and students on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process

  • Evaluate and select print and digital resources to support student learning

  • Manage media center resources, including the research and procurement of new and innovative print and digital resources

  • Communicate effectively, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students and faculty

  • Possess knowledge of instructional methods, strategies, and pedagogy

  • Possess knowledge of curriculum development processes and learning theories

  • Have an understanding of student growth and development

  • Display leadership, organizational, and budget management skills

  • Must successfully interact with students and staff from various disciplines and with differing skill levels

  • Convey knowledge about the use of web tools for instruction

  • Ensure staff are effective users of information, ideas, and effective users of technology and media literacy for instruction

  • Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and discerning, technologically literate, ethical users of information

  • Instill a love of lifelong learning in all students

  • Ensure equitable access to information and learning resources

  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and instructional units.

This is a salaried exempt position, not eligible for overtime, under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position reports to the Director of Technology

Work Hours

  • Generally, faculty work 7:30-3:30.

  • Faculty and Staff rotate weekly morning carpool which starts at 7:30 AM and afternoon carpool which lasts a minimum of 30 minutes.

  • When necessary, the employee must be flexible in the ability to work more than their regular daily or weekly schedule to complete duties and/or to be available for parent conversations and consultations.
