Summary of Position

The University of New Hampshire Library seeks a knowledgeable and innovative Metadata and Discovery Strategy Librarian who will play an integral role in the development, implementation, and evolution of strategies and services for the discovery of library resources and the continuous improvement of the user experience. The incumbent is responsible for assessing and managing aspects of the life cycle of electronic resources, which can include cataloging/metadata, access, discovery, assessment, and problem resolution. In addition, this person is also responsible for monitoring user needs, assessing system use, investigating new features, evaluating new systems and tools, and recommending and implementing improvements. The incumbent will work collaboratively to develop and assess efficient workflows for the enhancement of library discovery services.

This position will also play a major role in supporting the success of the University of New Hampshire Library digital initiatives by enhancing discovery and access for digital content through metadata creation and enrichment according to local and national metadata standards. The incumbent will develop a strategic vision for metadata and will lead the implementation of adopted metadata standards, practices, and workflows. The Metadata and Discovery Strategy Librarian will participate in innovative research and development projects related to enhanced metadata and digital content.

The position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position with appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications. The incumbent is expected to engage in scholarship and participate actively in library, university, and professional service.

This tenure-track position reports to the Dean of the University Library through the Library Faculty Chair.

Minimum contractual salary offer for FY19 is $77,670 for the rank of Assistant Professor. Competitive benefits package.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science;
Working knowledge of standards such as Dublin Core, MODS, EAD, TEI, VRACore, METS, PREMIS, RDF, XSLT, XML, SPARQL, and MARC;
Ability to write scripts and/or other programming skills;
Demonstrated knowledge of controlled vocabularies and data content standards such as AAT, TGN, CCO, LCSH, and RDA;
Experience working with ILS/LSP, discovery layers, link resolvers, proxy servers;
Experience in project management, managing multiple priorities, and competing deadlines;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Excellent interpersonal skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of practical experience developing and enhancing metadata in a library environment or cultural institution;
Familiarity with Semantic Web concepts;
Familiarity with Fedora Commons Repository software;
Demonstrated success in preparation of proposals and grant applications;
Experience with instruction or information literacy;
A second advanced degree in a relevant subject area is strongly preferred; a second advanced degree is required for tenure.
